National Media Fest - Big Picture inaugurated at Amity School of Communications

Amity School of Communication (ASCO) and Amity Institute of Event Management kick started their Fourth National three-day Media Festival “The Big Picture” at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida. With the world becoming a global village and communication the key world for success, the theme for this year’s “The Big Picture” is befittingly “Communication Warfare”

An apt forum for the communication students and media practitioners, the Big Picture provides an opportunity for the media and communication students to rub shoulders with who’s who of the media and film industry. It provides a vibrant platform for debate, discussion and dialogue on pressing issues that pose a challenge to newspaper, television, online and other alternative media.

Inaugurating the Big Picture, the Chief Guest Mr. Andrew Whitehead, Director BBC World Service Trust said that today’s young generation is the most empowered generation India has ever produced They have got a plethora of resources at their disposal. But in the wake of this empowerment comes the responsibility; the responsibility towards fellow beings; responsibility towards nation. Same goes for media which is the fourth pillar of our nation. Every news cannot be aired as “Breaking” or “Exclusive”. People have vested a lot of power in media which needs to be utilized properly. Media needs to be selective, balanced and discreet in its approach.

Taking about the boom in media industry, Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor- Amity University said that with so many publications and channels coming up, media has become very powerful. Its intervention can ensure justice on time. At the same time to catch eyeballs, unnecessary exaggeration is done; sometimes stories are brought out without verifying their authenticity. This is something which is robbing media of its glory. He advised budding journalists to be diligent, pro-active and improve their communication skills to excel in their respective fields.

Dr. Avinash Singh, Director, ASCO said “Big Picture means big change. It is a convergence of ideas and thoughts. He talked about the revolutionary changes in newspaper, radio, as well as complete media. “This festival is a forum for the communication, students, media practitioners and interested fraternity intending to interact with well known figures from the media industry”, said Dr. Singh.

The inauguration was attended by eminent personalities from print as well as electronic media including Mr. Manoj Raghuvanshi,TV personality; Mr. Abhinav Chaturvedi, TV Personality; Mr. Ajay Jha, Senior Input Editor NDTV.

The inauguration was followed by a panel discussion “Charcha” on “Desi scripts woo videsi hearts! Has Bollywood finally got original?” attracted eminent personalities from the field of advertising, public relations, marketing and branding.

A spectacular photo exhibition displaying exclusive masterpieces of Mr. T.S Ashok- Photo Director, President’s Secretariat and Ms. Lovina- Wildlife Photographer was also put up.

The highlight of the days event was the launch of first “Cine India International Film Festival” comprising screening of short films and documentaries from different countries. Out of 70 entries few films were shortlisted for final screening including “Noora (Iran)”, “True Love is just Filmy (Germany)”, “Colors of Paradise (Iran)”, “Kalakaar (India)”, “ Me Meera (India)”, “Holy Men and the Fools (UK)”, “In the Shadow of Palms (Australia)” and “Miss Paist & Miss Wrist (Germany)”

Several inter- college competitions were held like report writing, “Khel Khel Mein- Cartooning”, “Chehre Pe Chehra- Face Painting”, “Ran Neeti- Ad Mad”, “War of Beats- Disc Jockeying” and “Synergy –Choreography” which were judged by the top brass of the media industry.

The evening saw a heart throb and scintillating performance by Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts
