2nd National Forensic Science Quiz competition organised by Amity Institute of Behavioral Health and Allied Sciences

Amity Institute of Behavioral Health and Allied Sciences (AIBHAS) organized the 2nd National Forensic Science Quiz competition in collaboration with Directorate of Foreign Science, Ministry of Home affairs, Govt. of India at Amity University, Sec- 125 Noida.

Inaugurating the quiz competition, the chief guest Dr. M.S Rao, Director cum Chief Forensic Scientist, Directorate of Forensic Science said that new trends has emerged in crime scenario. The domain of forensic science is really burgeoning and it is a big challenge for the forensic science students. Time is ripe for change. Modern approach should be a step ahead. The need of the hour is cost effective and less time consuming forensic tools. He further opined that it’s mandatory to follow ethics in forensic science.

Congratulating the participants, the guest of honor Prof. (Dr.) T.D Dogra, Head – department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, AIIMS said that India is a great nation and biggest democracy in the world. It is the most diverse country in terms of language and culture but, needless you say, it has unity in diversity. This great giant of civilization was in a great slumber for many years but now it is developing rapidly at a great pace. And Forensic Science has had played a vital role in this. It acts as a peace keeping device. “Forensic Science needs to be preventive and pro- active so that it can detect crime beforehand” asserted Dr. T.D Dogra.

Conferring the awards and certificates on the winners, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation said, “It’s really nice to be a part of such enthusiastic gathering. Time to time quiz competitions should be arranged in every institution since it provides students with an opportunity to interact with forensic science experts and students from other universities. Quiz is a touchstone for judging students knowledge in their respective fields.” He further advised the participants to add intuition and instinct during investigation and courses should include preventive and investigative intelligence.

Dr. R.P Singh- Ex Director, U.P State Forensic Science Laboratory, Dr. Surinder Nath- Head of the Department- Anthropology, Delhi University, Prof. (Dr.) T.D. Dogra, Head – Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, AIIMS and Dr. Sanyal- Ex –Head, Department of National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science formed the panel of eminent judges

Students from Hari Singh Gaur University- Madhya Pradesh, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Amity University, Delhi University and Punjab University – Patiala enthusiastically participated in the quiz competition. Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar bagged the first prize. Second prize was conferred on Delhi University (Anthropology) followed by National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science. Rest of the teams were awarded certificates of participation.

Expressing his views on the occasion, a student from Hari Singh Gaur University- Madhya Pradesh said, “Amity, being a private university, can actually incorporate contemporary changes in the curriculum of forensic science. Amity University, having best infrastructure, can easily tie up with foreign Universities providing an opportunity of resource exchange between the two countries.”
