Montessori Teacher Training Programme launched at Amity

Teachers have been contributing in a big way to human resource development of the country and are planting the seed so that young minds become brilliant youth in years to come and grow further to become the most responsible citizens of the country. Keeping the above objective in mind the Amity Centre for Educational Research and Training launched the Montessori Teacher Training Programme at Amity International School Campus, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi. The programme will also run in Centres in Noida and Gurgaon. The idea is to train the teachers of international calibre who can be instrumental in changing the scenario of education in the country. Over 200 students constitute in the first batch of this course.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) while interacting with the students remarked, “It has been proved by psychologists and brain research scientists that children in the age group of three to ten years between pre-nursery and fifth class have the highest learning capacity. The learning of such children depend on the art and skills of the teachers who develop them. Hardly any profession is more joyful and more satisfying than the fraternity of teachers who are engaged in bringing up these young kids and see them developing and growing.” Sharing tips on how to be successful teachers, he advised the aspiring teachers to be ambitious, optimistic, wise and foresighted.

Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) also addressed the students and encouraged them to inculcate good values and the spirit of patriotism in our future leaders. She feels that the most successful teachers are the ones who are willing to update their knowledge and constantly improve themselves. “Teachers shape lives and happy teachers make happy children.”

Welcoming the participants of this unique programme Ms. Sapna Chauhan, an alumnus of Wharton Business School and Vice Chairperson, Amity Centre for Educational Research and Training remarked that the entire world has awakened to the importance of early foundation of the personality of a child. She feels that “The early and primary years of education develop, refine and broaden the academic horizon of an individual. The importance and role of a teacher in shaping today’s youth and society cannot be expressed enough. Their dedication, motivation and ability determine the success or failure of any educational system”.

Giving an insight on the programme Ms. Rachana Kodesia, Director Academics said, “The aim of the programme is to guide teachers as they prepare for work and the responsibility of helping each child to develop their potential optimally. The programme provides students with opportunities to develop an understanding of a child’s stages of development and the different conditions and strategies necessary to support development at each stage.”

Amity offers a one year post graduate diploma programme in Montessori Method of Education. The course curriculum covers topics related to knowledge of childcare and education (Montessori philosophy and pedagogy, child development and child psychology, curriculum planning, classroom management), use of the Montessori apparatus (exercises of practical life, sensorial education, teaching about the world: zoology, geography and history, language phonics and grammar, early mathematics), teaching practice (applications and child study) and innovative and creative workshops (language development program, personality development, story telling, art and craft, classroom management, parent interaction, music and movement, food and nutrition, speech and drama environmental project and curriculum planning, first aid training (red cross), trip planning and execution).
