Amity joins hands with NHPC to impart training on “Understanding Electricity Act, 2003”

Amity Institute of Energy & Environment (AIEE) under the collaborative agreement with NHPC organized a two day programme on “Understanding Electricity Act, 2003” from August 03, 2006 to August 04, 2006 at NHPC Conference Hall, Faridabad. This is the first out of the series of five programmes that AIEE will be conducting at NHPC campus till January 2007 on subjects relating to Energy. Nearly 30 senior officers of the NHPC participated in this programme.

Inaugurating the programme Mr. R.K. Jain, Member (Thermal), CEA remarked, “The main objective of organizing such training is to train NHPC officials as to how they can fulfill the needs the consumers more effectively and efficiently, what measures can be implemented in the development of electricity industry, promoting competition therein, protecting interests of consumers and supply of electricity to all areas, rationalization of electricity tariff, ensuring transparent policies regarding subsidies, promotion of efficient and environmentally benign policies etc. He welcomed this initiative of Amity in opening the horizons of learning and enhancing the skills of NHPC officials.

Welcoming the participants, Mr. K.S. Bains, Director General, Amity Institute of Training & Development and Amity Institute of Organic Agriculture said, “Through such training programmes, effort is being made to synergize the efficient usage of electricity and create awareness amongst the service provider to promote optimum utilization of resources.” Amity has conducted several training programmes for PSUS in which the objective is to enhance the skills of the people through updated information and help them implement Government policies.

Mr. V.P. Garg, Vice President, Amity Institute of Energy & Environment (AIEE) introduced the programme to the participants and dwarf on the objective of Amity Institute of Energy and Environment (AIEE) which imparts quality education in the vital area of energy and environment through its professional strength and purpose for industrial activity support needed for managing the most important resource 'Energy' and protecting the Environment. He said, “AIEE enriches the already professionally qualified officers in their application skills; so that they get familiarized with certain key areas of electricity dispersion and control. Topics discussed during training would include Definitions and scope of the Electricity Act 2003, carbon trading, agencies/organizations (broad features) in power sector, relevant provisions of the act for generation of electricity, power trading, tariff, licensing procedure and exceptions, regulatory issues, offences and penalties, national electricity policy and plan, transmission, distribution and regulatory systems, energy audit and energy control.

The workshop was conducted by senior academicians of Amity and experts in the area of energy management including Ms Pamposh Bhatt, Head, CDM-India; Mr. R.K. Narayan, Ex Chairman, Powergrid; Mr. Ashwani Jain, GM, Powergrid, Mr. Ravinder, Chief (Engg) CERC; Mr. Rajiv Malhotra, Vice President, Power Trading Corpn of India Ltd etc. After concluding ceremony, Mr. S.K. Chaturvedi, Director (Personnel), NHPC distributed certificates to the participants.
