Invited Talk on "Structural & Functional Analyses of Multi Drug Resistance proteins of pathogenic Candida"

Amity Institute of Biotechnology Gurgaon organized an invited Talk on Structural and functional analyses of multidrug resistance proteins of pathogenic Candida by Dr.  Abdul Haseeb Shah Department of Bioresources, University of Kashmir, Srinagar on 30th March 2017.

The talk dealt about the serious problem of encountering multidrug resistance in human fungal pathogens. Fungi which have the ability to colonize various niches are frequently seen to infect higher eukaryotes like plants, insects, amphibians and humans. Human fungal infections are mostly caused by opportunistic fungi which frequently colonize the immunologically compromised patients.Drug resistant isolates of fungi are readily isolated, both in the laboratory and in the clinic that demonstrate resistance to a wide range of antibiotics beyond that initially used for treatment, He mentioned. Few of the commonly employed drug resistance mechanisms generally consist of mutations of drug target enzymes, depletion of drug target like ergosterol contents in cell membrane, overexpression of drug efflux pumps leading to decreased retention of drugs inside the cells and others, he added.

After the lecture, many faculties and students interacted with Dr. Shah and clarified many aspects pertaining to the topic. After the lecture, Professor Rajendra Prasad thanked him for his illuminating talk and presented him a memento symbolizing Amity.
