Amity School of Communication organizes a National Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights in Media & Entertainment: Issues and Challenges” on 10th February, 2017

Amity School of Communication on the 10th of February, 2017 conducted a National Seminar on 'Intellectual property rights in Media & Entertainment: Issues and Challenges' in the Auditorium of the University to create a forum for discourse over this contemporary topic. Several distinguished guests from various academic backgrounds made their presence felt and participated in the seminar to share their ideas and views on various aspects of Intellectual Property Rights in Media, i.e., how acutely it has permeated into our society, how indispensable it has become, and what are the various roles, issues and challenges that are involved.

The inaugural session of the seminar saw the lighting of the lamp along with presenting of Basil saplings to the dignitaries, followed by the opening remarks by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUMP, Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd.). Lt General Sharma spoke of the serious issues concerning plagiarism and Copyright  in Media and Entertainment Industry. He gave insightful instances and quoted case studies showcasing the violation of Intellectual Property Rights. The session also included the keynote address by the eminent former Director/Scientist, Shri Ram Khilari from the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi. He spoke of the challenges and importance of Competitiveness, mentioned the salient features of Indian MF, and emphasized on promoting innovation to build the socio-economic properties. Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kumar from IIT Delhi & IIM Ahmadabad expressed his views on the paradoxes related to the intricacies in Intellectual Property: its various aspects, importance of fortification, and dissemination in the current environment.

The post lunch sessions included a technical session and the valedictory function. The technical session was chaired by Dr. Sunil Kumar Garg and Dr. Ambrish Shukla from MPCST, Bhopal. Research papers were presented by Dr. Deepak Miglani, Ansal University, Haryana, Mr. Subhrajeet Ganguli, IIM, Kolkata, Ms. Jyoti Chauhan, KRG, Gwalior, Ms. Granthana Mukherjee, Sikkim Central University, and Ms. Irtiqaa, Mr. Zafar and Ms. Nutan Joshi, Amity University Madhya Pradesh.

The valedictory session was marked by the concluding remarks of Prof. Diwakar Shukla, Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal and of Dr. Melissa A. Fitch, University of Arizona. Prof. Shukla enlightened the audience with his quotes and observations on the significance of IPR & Entertainment Industry; and Dr. Fitch talked about the issues and challenges of IPR on a global platform. At the finale of the event, during the award ceremony, Dr. Deepak Miglani, Ansal University, Haryana and Mr. Subhrajeet Ganguli, IIM, Kolkata received the Best Paper Award.
