Workshop on Advance techniques in Molecular & Cell Biology workflow
A lecture workshop on ‘Advance techniques in Molecular & Cell Biology workflow’ on 29th August 2016 from 10:45 am to 5:00 pm was organized by Thermo Fisher Scientific, Invitrogen Bio Services India private limited. Venue of the lecture was LT-24 and workshop was AIB research lab CR-25, Block-4, Amity University Rajasthan, Jaipur. Fifty students of different programmes including Integrated M.Tech (CT) (1st and 3rd semester), M.Sc/ M.Tech biotech (1st and 3rd semester), PhD research scholars and faculty members from AIB have attended the same.
Dr. Anupam Jyoti welcomed all the participants and introduced the experts from Thermo Fisher Scientific. He explained the theme of lecture workshop and how this workshop is beneficial to students and faculty members of AIB. Mr. Virender Sharma, Regional Manager, LSG, Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Fisher Scientific. Further on, Dr. Anil Singh Baghel, Molecular, cell & protein Biology expert delivered lecture on Molecular Biology Research Workflow, where he explained DNA/RNA isolation, Nucleic acid quantification, DNA amplification and Gene expression analysis using Real time PCR. Dr. Anil demonstrated and trained students for DNA and RNA quantification in lab. Students were curious to learn this technique.
In the continuation, Dr. Ajay Kumar delivered lecture on CRISPR and Gene Editing. He explained this novel technique in great detail. He discussed various terminologies like gene knock out, gene knock down, gene knock in. He mentioned that CRISPR and Gene editing technique plays important role in generation of transgenic animals, transgenic plants and recombinant protein production.
An interactive session on carrier prospects in biotechnology was organised. Mr. Virender Sharma addressed the students and students have asked many questions. Mr. Virendra answered the questions and cleared many doubts of student’s minds. This was followed by lunch. The post lunch session witnessed the lab work where Dr. Anil Singh Baghel demonstrated the technique of DNA and RNA quantification on Qubit instrument. He emphasized that the sample need not to be wasted even for 1 micro liter for DNA or RNA quantification.
Furthermore, in cell biology workflow Dr. Dr. Anil Singh delivered lecture on imaging techniques and analysis. He demonstrated the microscopic image acquisition and analysis using EVOS XL Core imaging system. This was followed by protein biology workflow. First of all, Dr. Anil explained the basics of protein sample preparation and downstream applications (Western blot, Mass Spec). He demonstrated the same in the lab as well. The lecture workshop ended with vote of thanks given by Dr. Sanket Kaushik.
