Amity Institute of Biotechnology organised a seven days National Workshop cum Hands-on-Training on Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, medical Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Industrial Microbiology from 12th to 18th October 2016.

Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh Gwalior organised a seven days National Workshop cum Hands-on-Training on Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, medical Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Industrial Microbiology from 12th to 18th October 2016.

The first day of national workshop i.e., 12th October 2016, was inaugurated by lamp lighting ceremony followed by Saraswati Vandana by the chief guest Prof.(Dr.) Sarman Singh from AIIMS, New Delhi. On this occasion, the Convener of National Workshop Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Singh Tomar briefed about the workshop and its different modules. He emphasized the importance of hands-on-training in the recent fields of biotechnology viz. Molecular biology, Medical biotechnology, Industrial biotechnology and Bioinformatics. A number of participants from all over India took active participation in the workshop.

On the first day of workshop, Prof. (Dr.) Sarman Singh focused and delivered an expert lecture on ‘Molecular methods for infectious diseases’. He briefed the audience about the use, application and future prospects of medical biotechnology. He also discussed about different communicable diseases such as AIDS, T.B., Plague, Cholera and Ebola along with their easy, rapid and suitable control using latest molecular techniques. He congratulated Prof. Tomar to take an initiative in this context. Afterwards, Pro Vice-chancellor, AUMP emphasizes the importance and application of Hands-on-Training in Biotechnology.

The distinguished guest and dignitaries released Lab Manual on “Laboratory Procedures in Biotechnology Vol-II” authored by Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Dr. Vikas Shrivastava and Dr. Anurag Jyoti and Vol-III authored by Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Mishra and Dr. Anurag Jyoti. The inaugural session concluded with felicitation of honourable guest. The participants were given hands-on-training and during post lunch session demonstration on different molecular and medical biotechnology based techniques along with theoretical and practical aspects. The session was coordinated by Dr. Anurag Jyoti, Dr. Raghvendra Saxena and Dr. Manish Kumar faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On the second day of the workshop i.e., 13th October 2016, an expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Ram Kumar Mishra from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal. Dr. Mishra focused and delivered an expert lecture on ‘Molecular tool and techniques help in decoding functions of biomolecules’. He briefed the audience about different molecular tools and techniques used in the detection and decoding functions of biomolecules. He also discussed about recent advances in molecular biotechnology which motivated students to research & innovate things. The expert lecture was concluded with felicitation of honorable guests by providing mementoes. Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Director-AIB and Dean (Academics) proposed vote of thanks. He further welcomed all the invited dignitaries, students, research scholars and academicians from various institutions. The participants were given hands-on-training and during post lunch session demonstration on different molecular biology based techniques along with theoretical and practical aspects. The hands-on-training session was coordinated by Dr. Anurag Jyoti, Dr. Raghvendra Saxena and Dr. Manish Kumar faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On the third day of the workshop i.e., 14th October 2016, an expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Jyoti Priyadarshini Shrivastava from GR Medical College, Gwalior. Dr. Shrivastava focused and delivered an expert lecture on ‘Advances in Diagnostic Microbiology and Immunology’. She briefed the audience about different immunological and microbiological tools and techniques used in advance diagnostics. She also discussed about recent advances in microbial medical biotechnology together with different immunological aspects which motivated students and participants to persue future research and innovation in the field of clinical diagnostics. She also elaborated the non-conventional techniques like genome profiling, Protein profiling nucleic acid amplification test and molecular differentiation diagnostics apart from conventional techniques to cure and diagnose different infectious diseases. The expert lecture was ended with felicitation of honorable guests by providing mementoes. Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Director-AIB and Dean (Academics) proposed vote of thanks. The participants were given hands-on-training and during post lunch session demonstration on different medical biotechnology based techniques along with theoretical and practical aspects. The hands-on-training session was coordinated by Dr. Raghvendra Mishra, Dr. Pratishtha Dwivedi and Dr. Raghvendra Saxena, faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On the fourth day of the workshop i.e., 15th October 2016, an expert lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Kumar Asthana from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Prof. Asthana focused and delivered an expert lecture on ‘Antimicrobial and Anti-cancer potential of cyanobacteria’. He briefed the audience by describing various facets of activities and role of nanotechnology associated screening and identification of antibacterial and anticancerous molecules from cyanobacteria.  He also discussed about recent advances in cyanobacterial genetics and fermentative hydrogen production together with different nanobiotechnological aspects which motivated students to research & innovate things. He also elaborated various tools and techniques employed in the study of anti-cancer potential of cyanobacteria and their analysis at gene level. The expert lecture was concluded with felicitation of honorable guests by providing mementoes. Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Director-AIB and Dean (Academics) proposed vote of thanks. On this occasion Amity Institute of Biotechnology also celebrated “World Students Day” as declared by the United Nations in 2010 to mark the importance of India’s former President Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The participants were given hands-on-training and during post lunch session demonstration on different industrial biotechnology based techniques along with theoretical and practical aspects. The session was coordinated by Dr. Vikas Shrivastava, Dr. Manish Kumar and Mrs. Sharmishta Banerjee, faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On the sixth day of the workshop i.e., 17th October 2016, an expert lecture was delivered by Prof.(Dr.) Rama Kant Singh, Acting Director from CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. Prof. Singh focused and delivered an expert lecture on ‘Application of Toxicological Studies in Medical Biotechnology’. He briefed the audience by describing various factors influencing chemical toxicology, Genotoxicity and different toxin testing methods.  He also discussed the importance, ethical issues and developments in toxicological studies together with different applications which motivated students for research & innovation. He also elaborated various tools and techniques employed in the environmental toxicological studies such as phosphate poisoning of Di-ammonium phosphates in foods along with their testing by computer modeling. The expert lecture was concluded with felicitation of honorable guests by providing mementoes. Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Director-AIB and Dean (Academics) proposed vote of thanks. The hands-on-training session on medical biotechnology was coordinated by Dr. Vikas Shrivastava, Dr. Manish Kumar and Mrs. Sharmishta Banerjee, faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On the seventh and concluding day of the workshop i.e., 18th October 2016, the participants were given hands-on-training and demonstration on different tools and techniques used in bioinformatics along with brief discussion on theoretical and practical aspects. The session was coordinated by Dr. Shuchi Kaushik and Dr. Manish Kumar, faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

Workshop was concluded with the valedictory function. The chief guest Prof. (Dr.) R.K.Singh, Acting Director, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, was felicitated with floral bouquet and memento. On this occasion Prof. Singh shared his experiences and urged more such workshops should be organized. Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, Convenor of the workshop and Director AIB & Dean(Academics), concluded the session by giving the summary of all the lectures and training sessions which were conducted during the work shop. Certificates were distributed to all the participants of workshop by the dignitaries. The valedictory session was ended with vote of thanks extended by Dr. Shuchi Kaushik. She expressed her gratitude to all the invited dignitaries and experts from various reputed organizations, who spared their valuable time. She also extended thanks to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUMP, Pro Vice Chancellor, Director AIB, all the Director, Deans and HOI of AUMP. Last but not the least she thanked all the participants, faculty members and students who made the workshop a mega success.
