Distinguished Global Indian Speaker Series at Amity University Gurgaon on 26th September by Prof. (Dr) Vistasp M Karbhari, President from University of Texas, Arlington, USA

Prof. (Dr) Vistasp M Karbhari, President from University of Texas, Arlington, USA, delivered the talk on “Role of Higher Education in a global economy”. He was accompanied with a delegation, comprising Prof. (Dr) Pranesh B Aswath, Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Policy; Prof. (Dr) Chandra Subramaniam, Dean College of Business; Mr. Jay P Horn, Executive Director, International Education; Ms. Dara Newton, Director, Admissions along with team of Councilors, all from University of Texas, Arlington, USA.

The event started with glimpses of Amity University, presenting a brief about Amity’s strengths, campuses in India and abroad, accreditations, rankings and depicting presence all across the globe; followed with a floral welcome to each of the delegates. Prof. (Dr) Gunjan M Sanjeev gave the opening remarks on the rationale of the event and briefed the audience on the past speakers.

Prof. (Dr) P.B. Sharma gave the welcome address and shared the strategic vision of Amity with the guests to explore and develop opportunities for achieve our visions collectively. He also expressed great joy in welcoming and hosting the President from the University of Texas, Arlington (UTA) along with his team of Delegates at AUH. Prof. (Dr) Padmakali Banerjee also welcomed the guests and briefed them about academics at Amity. She shared some of the innovative initiatives taken at Amity Gurgaon such as Flexi-Credit System, Industry Integration in academics, Foreign Languages and Study Abroad Programs. She emphasized that Learning with a global outlook shall only help the students to achieve success.

In his address, Prof. (Dr) Pranesh B Aswath, Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Policy, University of Texas, Arlington said how overwhelmed they were by the warmth showcased by Amity. He also presented some key facts and highlights for the University of Texas, Arlington to make the audience familiar with their institution.

The event was also marked with award of Honorary Professorship to Prof. (Dr) Vistasp M Karbhari, President, University of Texas, Arlington, who was presented with a Certificate and Citation for the same. He was honored to receive the award and accepted it with grace. Prof. (Dr) Vistasp was also felicitated with a trophy and citation as the Distinguished Global Indian Speaker Series. Also, the MoU of cooperation was signed between the two Universities. 

He focused on how radically we need to re-think on enabling knowledge on demand by bringing together access, excellence and impact at the University / Centers of Knowledge. Some of the important points highlighted were: providing global access; enabling multi-, cross-, and inter-disciplinarily; re-envisioning the definition of “disciplines” and “qualifications”; providing flexibility in schedule; Keeping pace with a rapidly changing world.
