Workshop on Family Business Management and Celebration of Family Business Day

Amity Innovation Incubator celebrates Family Business Day

On account of family business day on 26th August 2016, Amity Innovation Incubator, Amity University Mumbai invited Mr. Vishal Thakkar to speak upon the various challenges faced by the family business sector in India. It was attended by the students of Amity Business School which includes streams like BBA, MBA, Bcom (Hons).Also students from various streams like Engineering, Psychology, and Architecture who are a part of the Amity Innovation Incubator were a part of the seminar.

Mr.Thakkar - a noted faculty at SP Jain Global Management School was the Chief guest and speaker. He is also an author, trainer and consultant to family managed business owners to solve challenges faced by them in various domains of business.

In his talk at Amity University he primarily talked about how the youth today are disinterested in carrying forward their family business and how even the parents don’t want their children to look into their family business. His anecdotes and his excellent sense of humor kept the audience entertained throughout the session. He also talked about the Americans are or might take advantage of our potential earning power for their benefits. Various websites like freelancer.com, moneybhai.com were mentioned by him which would help the students earn some extra bucks(freelancer.com) , teach them how the stock market works (moneybhai.com).

Through examples of ola , airbnb , oyo , flipkart he enlightened the students how daily problems like not getting a taxi on time or hotel rooms could be worked upon and can be solved and worked upon and can be developed into successful business ventures or in today’s world called as Start-Ups. He also advised the undergraduate students to have a work experience of at least 2-3 years before pursuing a post graduate degree.

By the end of the session he asked the students to re think their choices and see entrepreneurship in an altogether different light and urged them to try and choose the path of entrepreneurship .The seminar ended after a Q&A round, followed by a vote of thanks. Mr. Vishal Thakkar was then given a memento on behalf of Amity University Mumbai by Prof. Projit De, Faculty, Amity Business School.
