“CONCEPTS IN ARCHITECTURE”

The Workshop was  inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp by Prof. Suparna Sircar, Acting HOI, amidst the dignitaries present. The Guest of Honour was Architect Virendra Kumar, Chairman of IIA-Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Chapter, which had sponsored Day 1 of the National Workshop. The esteemed guests included renowned academicians like Professor Jagbir Singh, Dean-Faculty of Architecture AKTU, Prof. K. K. Dixit, former Director ASAPL, Prof Sewaram Agarwal, Director Architecture, RRITM Lucknow.

 The experts attending were no less impressive with nationally renowned faculty gracing the occasion such as Prof. Ravi Hazra, Ex-Director, IDC IIT Bombay, Prof. Miki Desai, Ex-Head of Planning CEPT Ahmedabad, Dr Jayashree Deshpande, Director NIASA, Prof. Pradnya Chauhan from Rizvi College Mumbai, Dr Vandana Sehgal, Head-Research from FOA AKTU alongwith Ar. Ritu Gulati and finally the young and dynamic Prof. Bhanu Pratap Sharma, Head of Indus College from Ahmedabad and Ar Siddhartha. were welcomed by. Prof. Suparna Sircar, Acting HOI, Amity School of Architecture and Planning, Lucknow Campus.

The Workshop was well attended by students of Architecture from Amity and other universities such as Integral University, Teerthankar Mahavir University, and various colleges of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University. Faculty members had accompanied their students for the three-day workshop and also availed of this enriching experience.

Day-One had Prof. Hazra’s thought-provoking lecture on different dimensions on concept development. Day-Two was dominated by all the Women in the expert panel with multiple dimensions of developing concepts being discussed. The range of subjects discussed varied from as basic as identifying activities and spaces and preparing a matrix on one end, to the realm of the subconscious mind for generating a concept for bruised and battered WW II victims done by Daniel Libeskind. Day-Three had again the passionate Prof. Miki Desai expressing anguish at the lost treasures of Indian Architectural marvels through his unique study on forgotten marvels. The Lecture series ended with Prof. Bhanu Pratap’s interesting presentation on the recognition of practical problems and principles of science to develop concepts through his self-designed projects.

The Workshop activities were conducted in the Studios. Prof. Hazra and Prof. Desai worked with First years on Basic Design Principles finally culminating into exercise on Light and Shade. Prof. Sehgal’s team also worked with the First years. Professors Deshpande and Chauhan did their popular role-play exercise with the Second year students. The Third years worked with the team of Prof. Bhanu Pratap.
