International Yoga Day at Amity University Mumbai
 

As part of International Yoga Day Celebrations 2016, Amity University, Mumbai (AUM) organized a Demo by Shri. Sharad Joshi of Yog Vidya Niketan, Panvel, Navi Mumbai. Shri. Joshi, a Yoga teacher, is popularizing Yoga education for the last 21 years in Navi Mumbai and nearby villages.

The event commenced with a lecture by Shri Sharad Joshi on the importance of yoga for physical, psychological and emotional health, as the stress level has increased manifold because of hectic lifestyle and work related issues. “Yoga is the best solution for better physical and mental health” said Shri Joshi.

A video film titled "Yoga Protocol 2016" depicting benefits of Yoga and Meditation was also screened to mark the occasion. To enable the participants to practice yoga at home, a practical guide of Asanas and Pranayam was also distributed.

Prof. (Dr.) V.V. Khole, Hon. Vice Chancellor (AUM), Dr. Anil Srivastav, Registrar (AUM), Major General S. Sridhar, Vice President, Amity Education Group along with Directors, HODs, HOIs, Faculties and Non-Teaching Staff & other members participated in the event. The participants performed various Yogic Asanas, Kriyas and Pranayam under the guidance of Shri Joshi.Despite the absence of students because of vacations, the response was overwhelming. All participants felt rejuvenated and decided to continue yoga practice every day.

Objectives of International Yoga Day :

International Day of Yoga at Amity Mumbai has been adopted to fulfill the following objectives:

  • To help people in their bad situations themselves by getting relief from stress through yoga.

  • To make people aware of physical and mental diseases and its solutions through practicing yoga.

  • To protect unhealthy practices and promote and respect the good practices to make health better.

  • To let people know their rights of good health and healthy life style to completely enjoy the highest standard of physical and mental health.

  • To link between protection of health and sustainable health development.

  • To promote better mental and physical health of people through yoga practice.
