Amity Law School organized the 1st National Moot Court Competition
Amity Law School, Gurgaon organized 1st National Moot Court Competition from 1st – 3rd April 2016 supported by SCC online and Eastern Book Company.
More than 33 Teams from around the country participated. Total Number of participants teams are 33 in number. Each Team comprised of 3 students, two being Mooters and one Researcher. Moot Court is an artificially created court wherein an atmosphere is created of an actual court in the class-room where students, posing as lawyers, research and prepare a given hypothetical case and then argue it as if arguing an actual case on behalf of their clients.
The Moot problem for the afore-stated competition related to the powers of a Governor vis-à-vis State Legislature. The Competition was inaugurated by Lt Gen KM Seth, PVSM, AVSM (Retd), former Governor Tripura and Chhattisgarh and presently on the Board of Directors of RBEF. In this inaugural speech, Gen Seth, while dwelling upon the powers of the Governor, shared his vast personal experience with the students and emphasized on the fact that a Governor is not a mere Rubber Stamp but the Constitutional Head of a State and functions within the four walls of the Constitution of India.
After intense and well contested Preliminary, Quarter Final and Semi-Final Rounds which were judged by 34 Judges of Practicing lawyers and Faculties of various Law Institutes, National Law Institute University, Bhopal and University School of Law & Legal Studies, Dwarka, Delhi, reached the Final Round. The Bench for the Final Round comprised of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sunil Hali, Former Judge of Allahabad High Court and Member (Judicial) Armed Forces Tribunal, Principal Bench, New Delhi, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director, Indian Law Institute and Mrs. Jyoti Singh, Senior Counsel. During the Valedictory Function held after the Final Round, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Director ALS and our honoured Judges, Mr. Justice Sunil Hali, Prof. (Dr.) MK Sinha and Mrs. Jyoti Singh addressed the gathering at B-Block Auditorium. The visiting dignitaries shared their personal experience in the field of law and stressed upon the need for the students to work hard and strive to become good lawyers. They felt that events like Moot Court Competitions teach the art of advocacy to students and thus give them the practical knowledge in their field.
