Dr. Krishna opined that in India there should be an effort to move the underprivileged class to the higher strata. He identified that there are four barriers that could be playing a detrimental role in fixing up the broken staircase. Firstly, thereare rising spatial inequalities which means that the divide between the rich and poor is increasing. Secondly, the opportunities for employment may be increasing but barriers are also increasing. Thirdly, there are large numbers of newer people falling into poverty over years andfinally, attitude of masses towards people hailing from rural backgrounds is not very positive. He emphasized that various stakeholders including Government, NGOs and individual could contribute towards mitigation of such barriers which could result in alleviation of poverty in years to come.

Prof. Krishna research focuses in the areas of Poverty, democracy, social capital, international development, community organization, civil society, governance and empowerment.
