Amity Institute of Biotechnology organized a Guest Lecture/Seminar by Prof. Sham S. Kakar, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, James Graham Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, USA on 4th March, 2016. The topic of the guest lecture was “New directions to target cancer stem cells for therapeutics purpose”.
Prof. Kakar was welcomed by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof PB Sharma and Prof Rajendra Prasad, Director AIB (Amity Institute of Biotechnology). The audience in the seminar included undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, faculties from different institutes/departments and distinguished senior faculties. The main theme of the talk was focused on targeting of cancer stem cells (CSCs) in solid tumors.
The students gained significant knowledge about the cancer stem cells particularly their types, properties, morphology and physiology besides getting an overview of cancer research. The research scholars and faculties also gained information about the possible approaches for targeting the cancer stem cells. The faculties interested in cancer research gained some ideas to write research projects for funding. Moreover, an active participation of the audience in the discussion after the talk showed the excitement and enthusiasm among them for cancer research. The seminar concluded in a positive note and Prof. Sham S. Kakar was given a thunderous applause for his lucid and informative presentation.
