"Plasma Science, Technology and Application (ICPSTA-2016)”

 

The conference was a big success and  it generated lot of interest among the scientific community, researchers, academia and students in India as well as abroad. Delegates from many prestigious institutions from countries like Germany, Japan, England and Nepal. There was strong representation from reputed Indian organizations as well, namely from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, Defence Research Development Organization, Indian Space Research Organizations, Department of Atomic Energy as well as from central universities.  

 

Prof. D.H.H. Hoffmann,   TU Darmstadt, Germany,  was  the chief guest at the inaugural function of the conference.  Padm Shri Prof PK Kaw, Institute of Plasma Research ,India;  Prof. J. Jacoby from   Goethe University Frankfurt,  Germany:  Prof Nishimura, Osaka University, Japan, Prof AW Cross, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK and  Padm Shri Prof. P.I. John, Meghnad Saha Chair in Plasma Science  and Technology, Institute for Plasma Research, India added  highest significance to the inaugural function with their presence.  Prof. PI John gave  key note address on research and development scenario in Plasma Science and Technology in India. He, specifically touched upon the human resource aspect and emphasized the need of participation of Universities in such research programmes. Maj. Gen. KK Ohri, Pro-Vice Chancelleor, AUUP, Lucknow Campus; Dr Qamar Rahman, Dean, Science, Research and Technology, AUUP, Lucknow campus and Dr Harish K Dwivedi, Director and Chairman, ICPSTA-2016 welcomed the guests during the inaugural session of the conference.

 

Prof PK Kaw and Prof MS Sodha,  the pioneers in the field of Plasma science and Technology were felicitated in the afternoon session of the conference on January 20th.  Popular Talk by Prof Kaw on  Man's search for new sources of energy--“Hymn to Agni God of Fire” speaks volumes about his experience, knowledge. His talk was inspiring for the all the participants of the conference.

 

Dr. H.B Srivastav, Director,  LASTEC, DRDO, New Delhi, India talked about applications of Laser systems in homeland security and defence systems.Dr. Ram Prakash, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, Dr. Ajay Agrawal, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, Dr. S. Mukherjee, Institute of Plasma Research, Dr. Udit Pal, CSIR-CEERI, Dr. Anand Kumar Srivastava, BIT, Jaipur Campus, Dr. A. Pillai, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Dr. Shivendra Maurya, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, India were with us to share their experience, knowledge and wisdom in various application areas of Plasma Science & Technology. The students from various streams appreciated such applications, which were related to almost all areas of engineering and sciences. 

 

Besides the Popular, Plenary and Invited talks,  there were total of 187 oral and poster presentations. These presentations were conducted in three parallel sessions in which “Plasma science, technology and allied areas”, “Plasma for Societal and aerospace Applications” and “Laser and Pulse Power” were the main focus areas.

 

Prof. D.H.H. Hoffmann, who is also the chief editor of the Journal “Laser and Particle Beams”, (published by Cambridge University Press, UK) suggested to consider publication of some of selected papers, which were presented in this conference. This, however, is subject to the existing review process of journal concerned.

One of the major features of the conference was presentation by “Energy Club”, a forum of students from across various streams of Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP), Lucknow Campus. The Energy club members not only gave presentation on their activities, but also conducted “Prof MS Sodha Conference quiz”  among participants. The quiz was unique, as it generated a lot of interest among participants and it turned out to be successful novel idea at an international forum.
