REPORT ON GUEST LECTURE ON WEIGHT MANAGEMENT “FLAB TO FAB 

Department of Dietetics & Applied Nutrition, Amity Medical School, Amity University Haryana, organized a Guest Lecture on “Weight Management” on 28th October, 2015 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.Dt. Sunaina Khetarpal, Chief Dietician, Kalyani Escorts Hospital, Gurgaon was the key note speaker. She shared very beneficial and useful information on weight management through her informative presentation “Flab to Fab”.

She initiated the lecture by bursting a number of common myths surrounding dietary habits and certain practices which are believed to be true. She emphasized on the importance of healthy snacking to boost metabolism and also on the common mistake of skipping breakfast. The guest lecture was an eye opener in terms of the false perception regarding fatty foods and the so called diet foods, which are also loaded with calories and contain harmful preservatives.

She emphasized on importance of setting realistic goals for losing weight and also the ideal ways of doing so. She threw some light on the importance of consuming five smaller meals over three larger ones, reading nutritional labels, eating slowly and chewing the food, using a mixture of oils which should be rich in both omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids and also the importance of active lifestyle.

The lecture also focused on consumption of certain super foods and foods which helps in increasing the basal metabolic rate like apples, oats, spices, whole grains, cherries and all the berries. In the end, there was also an informative session which included foods for healthy skin, which stole the show. She also discussed the importance of weight management in PCOD and other related diseases. Dt. Sunaina delivered the lecture very diligently and answered all the queries of the students in a proficient manner. The lecture proved to be very illuminating and enlightened the students as well as the faculty members with lot of information and education regarding weight management and general health.
