Kumbh of Innovation: NATIONAL INNOVATION CONCLAVE 2015 started at Amity University Gurgaon

The first ‘National Innovation Conclave’, christened as Kumbh of Innovation organized by Amity University, Gurgaon got off to an auspicious start with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Founder President of Amity Education Group, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Chancellor AUG Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor AUUP Dr. Atul Chauhan, Vice Chancellor Dr. P.B Sharma and Vice Chancellors of various Amity Universities at Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Gwalior and Raipur and other dignitaries.

Dr. V.S. Chauhan, Chairman, Executive Council NAAC delivered the key-note address. “Universities are engines of innovation and thus should provide a major boost to accelerated growth of startups and entrepreneurship” said Dr. Chauhan while sharing his vision of the universities of tomorrow. There is continuous tension in universities “between quality Vs quantity, research Vs teaching, science Vs humanities, free thinking Vs directed research, education Vs skilling, new knowledge Vs economic benefits, autonomy Vs governance and regulations. But these tensions are indeed useful and they are bound to be there”, he added. Dr. Chauhan also greatly appreciated the “comprehensive nature” of Amity Universities and the renewed focus on integrative science and interdisciplinary research. Dr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor of Amity University Gurgaon stressed the importance of innovation in Amity University and shared the success of Amity Innovation Incubator that has given rise to around 100 startups. He would like to see every stone and leaf of Amity University to be truly innovative in its body and soul so that after a few years the university emerges as a cradle of innovation and leads the nation in making innovation a revolution.

Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor Amity University Noida praised the competence and caliber of Indian scientists and technologists and felt privileged to head a university, whose scientists are very much applauded abroad. The Founder President of Amity Education Group, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan said all the faculties and staff working in Amity Universities are there for a special purpose; they are there not by chance but by choice because of the research and innovation environment in Amity. He desired that such a Kumbh of Innovation should rotate amongst the Amity campuses so as to reach out the innovative and inspired minds of talented students and faculty in large numbers.Dr. P.B. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor Amity University Gurgaon said that at Amity University we pursue innovations with a passion. 39 innovative projects including a 3D printing machine, bionic arm, Autonomous under Water Vehicle, Solar Hybrid car   and a gyroscopically controlled unmanned aerial vehicle, UAV designed and developed by Amity Gurgaon students along with a number of universities at Jaipur, Gwalior and Lucknowwere displayed at the conclave.  Dr. Sharma looked forward to a day when solutions to many of the problems of Indian society would be found through innovation facilitated by universities in India, especially Amity.

150 students of Amity International schools motivated by Chairperson of Amity International Schools Dr Amita Chauhan also participated in the conclave. The students of AIS Noida who recently won the NASA competition on Space Habitat at Planet Mars also made their presentation of their novel project.

The two day conclave included invited talks by experts from industry, successful entrepreneurs and eminent academicians. A large number of   research papers were also displayed in the research gallery.

During the conclave eminent researchers presented papers on major areas of their expertise including by Shri Naveen Kumar, CEO, Amtech Foundation, New Delhi; invited talks by V. Subramanian, Former Secretary, Government of India, Gaurav Loyalka, Co-founder, Novabeans, Gurgaon, Ajit Babu, CEO,  Dr. A.K Raghav and Prof P.B Sharma, ASET, AUG;Dr. Brijesh Kumar, Head, Centre for Nanoscience & Tech, AUG.

The conclave concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Prof. Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Professor of CSE & Coordinator of School of IT, IIT Delhi.

The Conclave was coordinated by Dr. J.P. Dudeja. Chief Coordinator of the Conclave welcomed the dignitaries and the audience. Maj Gen (Retd) B.S. Suhag, Dy Vice Chancellor, AUG, proposed the vote of thanks.
