International Yoga Day celebrations

Amity University Gurgaon celebrated the first International Yoga day activities under the guidance and active participation of Prof. (Dr.) P B Sharma, Hon’ble V.C and Maj. Gen. (retd.) G S Bal, Director Student welfare. A team of staff and students participated in the morning yoga demonstrations conducted by a team of Yoga experts from Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar who were specially invited to organize the morning yoga demonstrations in the early morning followed by half day’s yoga workshop on the theme “Yoga for Health, Success and happiness” on 22nd June, 2015. Both V.C sir and DSW actively participated in both the events.

The Yoga workshop began with Havan at 10:00 am participated by faculty and staff members of the University. With chanting of Gaytri and Vedic mantras the purified air was inhaled by all. The inauguration ceremony in A block auditorium, attended by faculty and staff members at the campus, began by lighting of the lamp.

Prof.(Dr.) P B Sharma, Hon’ble V.C in his welcome address declared that the benefits of Yoga in terms of health, success and happiness are enormous. He also declared that University may start regular course of studies in Yoga with an aim of holistic development of students into a multi-dimensional personality equipped to face challenges of practical life, including the cultivation of their inherent potential.

Sh Kalicharan Sharma, the Chief Guest, National & International Yoga seminars/Workshops organizer, Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar in his address invited the participants to take forward their lives towards more harmonious and peaceful life by following Yama/Niyama, deep study of Patanjali Yoga Sutras and Upanishads and Puranas and follow Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gyan Yoga as instructed to Arjun by Lord Krishna in Bhagvat Geeta. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Sh Sharma elaborated further that everyone is full of divinity. Quoting further a Bharat Ratna, Sh Sharma said “ Every challenge brought 50% increase in my efficiency”. He declared that through regular Pranayam ( breath control) mind can be become one pointed and that all big scientific inventions are the outcome of concentrated minds through Dhyana yoga.

Speaking on the topic “Benefits of Yoga”, Gen Bal DSW described ten major benefits of regular yoga practice viz. Weight loss, Stress relief, Inner peace, Improved immunity, Living with great awareness, Better relationships, Increased energy, Better flexibility & posture and Better intuition.

Asst. Prof. presented a one hour yoga demonstrations, including pranic healing and techniques of Acupressure to achieve a stress free office routine. Many yoga exercises were also repeated by the audience as shown in the photographs.

At the end while proposing a vote of thanks, Prof. J K Mehta, Coordinator, Yoga Club thanked Sh Kalicharan Sharma, Sh Rakesh Varma and his yoga team members for bringing awareness of benefits of Yoga exercises among the faculty and staff members. Prof. Mehta also conveyed thanks to Dr Pranav Pandiya, Hon’ble Chancellor, Dev Sanskriti University, Haridwar, for accepting his request for deputing a team for conducting yoga demonstrations and a yoga workshop at our campus.
