Special Lecture on Basic Life Support by Amity College of Nursing at AUH
One of the emergency techniques that every individual needs to learn is Basic Life Support (BLS) which is important in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This is a lifesaving technique that is performed to manually preserve the brain function of a person until further medical interventions are performed.BLS training should be attended by everyone irrespective of being associated with the medical field or not.
In view of this, Amity College of Nursing organized a Guest Lecture on Basic Life Support on 11th November, 2014 in the auditorium, Academic Block A, Amity University Gurgaon, Haryana.
It was our privilege to have Dr Talat Halim, Director, Emergency and Trauma Services, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, as the guest speaker to share his experience, expertise and knowledge on the topic: “Basic Life support” with the august gathering.
The event started at 10.00 am with networking tea at the VIP lounge followed by the technical session in the auditorium at 10.30 am. Professor Pranati Barua, Principal, Amity College of Nursing gave the welcome address to the Dr Talat Halim, distinguished guests and the large audience present in the auditorium. She highlighted the importance of training, updating and proficiency in Basic Life Support skills that are required by every individual.
The programme continued with the expert talk by Dr Talat Halim. He discussed the protocol of Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the role of a bystander in identifying and managing a patient requiring CPR. He justified his statement that in an emergency situation, the best ICU in the world is the individual (bystander) himself. With relevant examples, he vividly demonstrated the techniques of basic life support. The session was of great help to all the audience irrespective of its previous medical background.
The lecture was supplemented by video and demonstration on CPR mannequins. Mr. Monesh, Senior Staff Nurse from Emergency and Trauma Services, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, demonstrated the BLS protocol. The participants from the audience also had their hands-on- experience on the CPR mannequins for performing BLS till they achieved accuracy. The session was immediately followed by an open discussion wherein many questions were asked by the audience and elaborately addressed by Dr Talat Halim.

Raghav and other Heads of the Institute And faculty from various institutes of AUH as our esteemed guests.
The programme concluded at 12.00 PM with Vote of thanks proposed by Prof Madhavi Verma, Professor Amity College of Nursing. A large group of five hundred (approximately) participants comprising of teaching & non teaching staff and students from various institutes of Amity University Gurgaon had attended the session.
This was immediately followed by a Post session discussion between Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof, (Dr) Padmakali Banerjee and Dr. Talat Halim, Director, Emergency and Trauma Services, Fortis Memorial research Institute, Gurgaon at VIP Lounge, AUH at 12 pm. Other members who attended the meeting were Maj. Gen. Mahavir Singh, Dean, Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, Prof Pranati Barua, Principal Amity College of Nursing, Prof HK Satia, Professor, Amity Medical School, Prof Kiran Taneja, Vice Principal, Amity College of Nursing and Prof Madhavi Verma, Professor, Amity College of Nursing. In the meeting various aspects were discussed regarding preparing AUH for International certification Centre for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and BLS training.
