A day long, National Conference, Epitome– 2017 was organised by Amity School of Architecture & Planning, Noidaunder the leadership of Honourable Founder, Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. Thechair person for the conference was Dr. D.P Singh, Director, Amity School ofArchitecture and Planning, convener was Dr. Ekta Singh, co-convener was Ms.Anika Kapoor and coordinators were Ar. Alankrita Pagare and Ar, ShwetyaShrivastava.
Theobjective of the Conference “Research in Architecture: crossroads” was toexplore the probable areas of research in the Architecture domain. Theconference further intended to bring together eminent people, think tanks,researchers, scholars and students on a common platform to share theirexperiences and renowned work to stimulate research for the development of thediscipline and fraternity.
The conferencewas divided into 3 sessions, one inaugural, followed by two technical sessions.Keynote speakers for the inauguralsession were Ar. Yatin Pandya and Ar. Vandana Shegal. Ar. Yatin Pandya is anowner at Footprints E.A.R.T.H, a professional firm dealing in architecture, indigenousdesigns and environmental studies. He has written over two hundred articlesin National and International Journals. Several books are authored by him onarchitecture. Another keynote speaker was Ar. Vandana Sehgal, who is aPrincipal, faculty of Architecture, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam TechnicalUniversity, Lucknow. She is an architect, an artist and an academician. Shealso represents Government of Uttar Pradesh as member Council of Architecture.She has written many research and technical papers in renowned journals.
Technical session- I was on ArchitecturalResearch: Perspectives and Paradigms inArchitecture. It aimed at examining a varied range of topics in field ofarchitecture and their role, importance, and relevance in developmentcontextual architecture in the postmodern world. This session intended toexplore the probable paradigms and approaches to research in architecture andaspires its possible perspectives. The session had diverse speakers andrepresented the prspective across the globe and country. Dr. Bhakti Devi,Sydney Waters and Dr. Pilar Maria, Ph.D., Italy are doctorates. Ar. AnuragVerma, Practicing Architect & Researcher and Ar. Harish Tripathi,Practicing Architect & Researcher are pursuing research and Lipi Agarwal, Asst. Professor, L.J school ofArchitecture, Ahmedabad and Ar. Shalki Sharma, SPA, Delhi are scholars who wishto pursue research in near future.
Post lunch Technical session was on ArchitecturalResearch: A Quest for Integration with Education, Profession and Industry: Keysto Innovation and Research. It aimed at investigating methodologies ofteaching the skills and details associated with the field, to future generationarchitects, while enabling them to understand their place in the world. Thissession had 4 speakers. They were Ar. Bipasha Kumar, Ph.D. Scholar, SPA, Delhi,Ar. Kavita Agarwal, DGM, Orris Infrastructure,Gurgaon, Ar. Shubhru Gupta,Associate Professor, Amity University and Ar. Alex Joseph, PracticingArchitect, Noida and Ar. Dona Kurian,Assistant Professor, Amity University.
Delegatesand scholars were invited from various universities and colleges to witness theevent. Special invitees were Dr. Shaleen Singhal, Dr. Arvind Varshaney andProf. K.T Ravindran. There were 40 delegates from School of planning andarchitecture, Bhopal, School of planning and architecture, Delhi, Sharda University, Hindu school of architecture, Sonipat, Jamia MilliaIslamia, Gautam Buddh University and others. Besides, all the students andfaculties of Architecture and planning were the spectators.
