Guest Lecture on "Composting and waste management" organized at Amity University
In a bid to make students aware of waste segregation and waste management and to be able to take appropriate measure to rectify issues related to waste disposal, a guest lecture on “Composting and waste management’ was organized at Amity University, Noida. Samidha Bansal, CEO, Daily Dump Organization spoke about composting and waste management at length and was given a rousing welcome by Dr. Alka Mudgal, Director, Amity Institute of Education (AIE).
The lecture was inaugurated after invoking Goddess Saraswati on the occasion of Basant Panchami. Talking to students about environment and how it is the most important issue in the present times, Samidha Bansal shared how pollution has been affecting all of us and causing a number of health issues. She told students how if we take waste management seriously and treat the waste being generated from our homes and workplaces and use the waste generated from fruits and vegetables to create manure for the plants, we can contribute tremendously for the betterment of the environment.
Segregating wet waste from dry waste at homes is the first step towards creating compost at homes. The waste we generate and not dispose off properly reaches back to us in the form of air and water pollution. She further taught students the scientific way of preparing compost and to safeguard the environment by using that compost. Faculty members of AIE were also made to take a pledge by Samidha Bansal to avoid use of aluminum foil, thermocol, plastic, to follow waste management practices and to plant more trees.
Dr. Alka Mudgal shared how students at Amity are not only imparted education but also made aware of their social and environmental responsibilities. She further said how composting and waste management are integral processes to manage pollution and it is important for students to know about it. It was with this purpose that this lecture was organized, informed Dr. Mudgal.
