MOTIVATIONAL TALKS: MARGDARSHI
“MARGDARSHI” talk on ‘Advances in Biomedical Research and Innovation’ organized at Amity University on Teacher’s Day
Teacher’s Day celebrations at Amity University, Noida saw two eminent Biomedical Scientists, Teachers and Mentors, Prof. N. K. Ganguly, Ex-DG, ICMR and Prof. G. P. Talwar, Ex- Director, NII deliver motivational “MARGDARSHI” talks on the topics focusing on ‘Advances in Biomedical Research and Innovation’. The talk was organized by Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMMSCR). Prof. N. K. Ganguly, Ex-DG, ICMR delivered a talk on, ‘Across the Spectrum of Health & Disease Research’ and Prof. G. P. Talwar, Ex- Director, NII spoke at length about ‘Advances in Biomedical Research’.
Professor Talwar, Padma Bhushan awardee in 1992 who was also awarded Legion of Honour, the highest civilian honour in France, shared with the gathering how the profession of teaching should not just end at publishing papers, but the education should reach to the people and make a difference. He asked the audience to focus on ‘Mission Oriented Research’. “I was a teacher and I continue to be a teacher,” shared Professor Talwar who is known as the founder of the concept of vaccines in the country and also the man behind the development of the world’s first vaccine against leprosy. He also enlightened the audience about three of his researches that reached the end including ‘BASANT; Probiotics and a multi potential vaccine against Leprosy, drugs resistant tuberculosis, Ano-genetial warts and cancers’.
Prof. N. K. Ganguly shared his educational journey and the growth the field has seen over the last few decades and also the concerns about the direction in which education is moving. “Nobody is born with a poor intellect. A child shouldn’t be given reservation, but a chance to get solid education when they need it,” said Professor Ganguly along with sharing anecdotes about his teachers and learnings he received in his life. He also shared how “teachers play a very important part in the field of education by going on a discovery path and opening the minds & hearts of students to make them become something”.
Dr. W Selvamurthy, DG, ADSI & President, ASTIF welcomed the guests and shared how the esteemed speakers had exemplified the qualities what a scientist must have. Addressing Professor Talwar as ‘a personality easy to admire but difficult to emulate’, Dr. Selvamurthy shared how National Institute of Immunology (NII) was conceptualized based on a concept note Professor Talwar had shared with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He further shared how Professor Ganguly is credited to make health research reach a prime position today. “Amity is also on a mission to create new world order based on our Founder President’s dream and further lead to the creation of future global citizens, who are holistic human beings,” shared Dr. Selvamurthy. Also present on the occasion were students and faculty members to listen to the talk.
