COA Architecture Thesis & Heritage Awards 2019 begins at Amity University

“National Awards for Excellence in Architectural Thesis 2019” and “Students’ Awards for Excellence in Documentation of Architectural Heritage 2019” commence at Amity School of Architecture and Planning Noida, in association with Council of Architecture (COA) for the Zone-1.
The three day competition is envisioned with the sprit to promote students’ work at the undergraduate level and furthermore, sensitizing student community to develop appreciation for architectural heritage of the country. The objective is to provide an opportunity to students of different architectural schools across the country to showcase their talent and compete at pan India level.
As part of the initiative, an exhibition of students’ projects ranging from war memorial to convention center to historical architectural are on display, which will last for three days starting from 3rd September 2019 to 5th September 2019.
Ar. Mala Mohan, Additional Director General Architecture, Military Engineering School, Ministry of Defense; Ar. Shamit Manchanda, President Northern Chapter, The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA); Ar. Amit Garg, Director, Ganga Institute of Architecture & Town Planning, Jhajjar, Haryana and Prof. (Dr.) D.P. Singh, Director Amity School of Architecture and Planning inaugurated the exhibition.
Highlighting the importance of management skills in Architect profession, Ar. Mala Mohan points out that apart from knowledge about the domain, time management, presentation skills and corporate etiquettes are a must to be a good professional. She advised the budding architectural professionals to develop the risk taking capability and suggested to imbibe personal accountability and professional integrity throughout their career.
Ar. Amit Garg remarked that thesis shouldn’t be just considered as projects but must be taken as in-depth learning process. Talking about green and sustainable architecture, he emphasized upon taking many aspects into consideration before designing since eco-friendly architecture is the future of the profession.
Ar. Shamit Manchanda lauded COA for instituting such awards since for students, these awards carry a lot of weigh in terms of validation for their work. Also, students get an opportunity to learn about the work around the world.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) D.P. Singh said that this competition sets a platform for the Architecture students to demonstrate their talent thereby acting as a stepping-stone to achieve advanced professional goals in life.
This year, forty seven entries were shortlisted in the architectural thesis category and nine in the Architectural Heritage category at the Zone-1 level and the result will be declared on 5th sept 2019.
