One Week National Workshop on Yoga for Health Commemorating International Day Yoga at Amity University

 

In celebration of the International Day of Yoga, Amity Centre for Yoga Education, Therapy and Research (under the aegis of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH, GOI) is organizing One-Week National Workshop on ‘Yoga for Health’ from 17-21 June 2019, in association with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) at Amity University, Noida Campus.

The major objectives of this workshop are to promote Yoga for Holistic Development; to popularize yoga for wellness; to prevent disease and promote positive health and raise the level of consciousness and to increase individuals’ ability to handle stressful situations, raise productivity and efficiency and improve interpersonal relationships.

 

Expressing his views about Yoga, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Scientific, Technological and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) said that Yoga is a way of life which changes our outlook towards the world around us. Talking about the biological implications of yoga, he informed that yoga not only brings all the body functions to normal but also optimizes our physical performance and cognitive abilities. It also improves our level of stress tolerance which could helps us immensely in coping any situation in life.

 

Sharing his thoughts with the audience, Dr. I.V. Basavaraddi, Director, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India stated that the journey of Yoga is from finite to the infinite. He averred that if spirit is the essence of man, then spirituality is the essence of yoga and if we practice yoga regularly, we will evolve to the higher states of consciousness. Defining yoga, he exclaimed that, “Yoga is a process of detoxification of the body and the mind. Yoga is not only about asanas, it’s about raising the conscious at its optimum level.” He encouraged the participants to practice Yoga every day in order to be spiritual, prosperous and attain peace of mind.

 

Swami Smarananda Giri, Vice President, Yogoda Satsanga Society of India expressed his delight over the fact that people, over the years, are getting more and more aware about the importance of yoga. He explained that Yoga is a ‘Union’ with the self which leads to perpetual joy. He expressed that the current state of the world demands us to be ‘calmly active and actively calm’ and this state can be achieved through yoga. He averred that for us to be complete human beings, there needs to be a harmonious unity of the body and the mind, and mediation is the key through which we can achieve it and become more aware about ourselves. “Practicing yoga will free us from dire fear,” he added.

 

Mr. Tejasvi Sharma, World Yoga Champion, during the event, displayed invigorating yoga asanas and mudras. Expressing his thoughts over Yoga, he said that Practice and Determination are the two keys which can help you excel in yoga.  He apprised that quietude and peacefulness are the by-products of Yoga and meditation. Addressing the students, he said that Yoga improves our concentration level and focus, so everyone must practice it daily in order to witness astonishing results.

 

Hundreds of Faculty members, Students, Scientists, Research Scholars and Academicians participated in the workshop.
