“Incubators required to nurture water-based startups” avers DST Scientist
Amity Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation Alliance (AFSTIA) organized an interactive session on water related projects at Amity University, Noida, discuss as to how to develop new ideas on conserving and harvesting water efficiently.
Several Scientists, Faculty members and Ph.D Scholars of Amity Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation Alliance (AFSTIA); Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) and other departments of Amity University participated in the discussion.
Dr. Neelima Alam, Scientist ‘E’, Technology Mission Division (Energy and Water), Department of Science and Technology (DST) discussed about various water-based projects with different departments of Amity and suggested to mutually collaborate and implement it once it gets DST’s approval. She apprised in the meeting, that the main thrust of DST is on Application led Research and Development (R&D). “We are looking forward to establish a sector-based incubator to nurture water-based startups”, she added. She also apprised that in the Water Technology Initiative (WTI) programme we have been probing into and working upon Microbial Online Detection which is an extremely important area to be researched.
Dr. Suman, Professor, Amity Institute of Renewable and Alternative Energy apprised that her team has designed a new waste water purifier model in which they took contaminated water from a drain and cleaned it by the process of electro-copulation which generated electricity and afterwards made the water fit for irrigation.
During the session, all the scientists, professors and scholars talked about the various water projects on which they had been working like purification through waste material, waste water treatment by algae, water splitting, purification through synthesis of nanomaterial and removal of heavy metals like lead and arsenic from water.
Dr. Neelima Alam lauded the efforts of the Scientists, Professors and Scholars of Amity University and said that they shouldn’t hesitate in taking their research beyond laboratories and be ready to go that extra mile to achieve optimum results.
