“Megatrends and Career Scope in Logistics and Supply Chain Management”
To abreast the budding young professionals about the growth and opportunities in Logistic Industry, CII School of Logistics, Amity University organized a Seminar on “Megatrends and Career Scope in Logistics and Supply Chain Management” at University campus, Sector 125, Noida.
The seminar aimed to facilitate interaction between aspiring professionals, practicing professionals and Industry leaders on different sectors of industry.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Anita Kumar, Director, CII School of Logistics said that global supply chains demand orchestration of Shippers, Logistics Service Providers, Banks, Government Agencies and Gateway Ports to fulfil end customer needs on time and in full. Hence, there has been a growing demand for Logistics and Supply Chain professionals. Dr. Kumar added that the students with interests in Sciences, Commerce, Engineering, Technology and Management disciplines can find scope for contribution in process management, innovation and research. She emphasized that the Logistics and supply chain domain provides scope for applications of conventional and new generation areas of study in operations, quality and business development or outsourcing, analytics and information systems aligned with Industry 4.0.
Inaugurating the seminar, Mr Sunil Arora, Vice President – ACAAI & MD, Delta Air Freight (P) Ltd mentioned that earlier in 80’s logistics industry had a limited scope for professionals but with globalization, the industry has expanded and now logistics is an integral part of every business. He apprised that for the first time, Commerce Ministry has recent announced of National Logistics Policy which will further concrete the growth of logistics sector. Mr. Arora added that logistics industry in India has witnessed a significant growth specially the air cargo at 15% and the country is developing fast to become a logistic hub for the world. There are lot of avenues and scope in logistics that can be tapped by the young professionals in various industries such as commercial market, FMCG, trade production, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals amongst others. He called upon the students to gain knowledge beyond books and advised them to improvise the communication skills and to acquire precise and perfect knowledge about the work that will help them to be successful. Mr. Arora further suggested that educational institutions must include about the AI (artificial intelligence) and IoT in logistics and prepare the students as per industry needs.
Speaking during the occasion, Mr Aditya Gupta, Business Head, TVS Logistics Services Ltd. briefed the students about supply chain process in FMCG and E- Commerce and said that supply chain is like nature, it is all around us. He remarked that supply chain holds the future and India is on a growth trajectory in this sector. Mr. Gupta added that growth of e-commerce industry has also lead to an increase in demand for efficient logistics. The competition in e-commerce is not only about the product but also the supply chain i.e fast and timely delivery. He averred that logistics industry is seeking for professionals who are skilled and can contribute through new ideas and approach towards the functioning of the sector.
The inauguration was followed by a by a Panel Discussion on ‘Career Opportunities in Logistics and Supply Chain Management’.
Sharing his views, Mr Sukhwinder Singh, Vice President, Blue Dart shared that a professional must possess the skills of thinking, deciding and planning to work in the logistics industry and advised the budding professionals to have the right aptitude and attitude to be in this service industry. He apprised that Data Analytics is the upcoming area in logistics that can be explored by the young professionals. Mr. Singh advised students to upgrade their skills with changing times and must always remain sensitive towards the product and customer.
Mr Firoze Hussain, Vice President, Delhivery encouraged the students to cultivate innovative mindset since disruptions are required at every vertical for the industry to grow. He apprised that companies are looking for delivery solutions at places that doesn’t have proper addresses unlike the cities.
Mr. V V Benugopal, President and Chief Executive Officer at Panther Transfreight Ltd apprised that there is a shortage of manpower in logistics sector and the need of the hour is to train and mould the budding professionals as per industry needs. He highlighted that gender barriers are breaking in logistics and more women are hired, especially in the operations area. Mr. Benugopal pointed that the industry has scope of professional growth for people with disability too.
The discussion concluded with question answer session wherein students asked pertinent questions such as legal aspect in logistics, career growth etc which were well responded by the panelists. They emphasized that legal advocates and consultants are a rare commodity in logistics and there is a dearth of specialized legal professionals in the sector.
The seminar was attended by hundreds of undergraduate and post graduate students of CII School of logistics and other institutions of Amity University.
