National Conference on “Professional Development of Teachers : Innovative Paradigms and Practices”
Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Science (AIBAS) organized a one-day National Conference on “Professional Development of Teachers : Innovative Paradigms and Practices” at Amity University, Noida. The conference was conducted to apprise the teachers of Amity University with the changing methods of teaching and how they can use these methods to hone their skills to ensure better pedagogy.
The conference was inaugurated with a Saraswati Vandana by the students of AIBAS. Dr. Harish Kumar Tyagi, HOI, Amity Institute of Behavioral and Allied Science welcomed the Honorable Guest Mr. Adarsh Kumar, Executive Director, FDDI along with Dr. D. S. Rathore, (Prof.) Dr. Ranjana Bhatia, (Prof.) Dr. Alka Mudgal and the participants from various universities.
Sharing his views, Dr. Harish Kumar, HOI, AIBAS said that there needs to be a paradigm shift in the methodology of pedagogy to keep up with the advancements that are taking place in the education system. He said that the teachers, at their own end, need to review their own practices and teaching techniques and try to align themselves new methods of teaching. He apprised that as time progresses, education will transcend the boundaries of classrooms. He opined that the teachers need to re-innovate the curricula that they have been using to teach students since long.
Addressing the teachers, Dr. Alka Mudgal, HOI, Amity Institute of Education (AIE) said that teachers are considered as epitome of knowledge and therefore we need to make ourselves worthy of the respect that the students bestow upon us. We need to hone our skills and upgrade our knowledge to ensure better education.
Dr. Ranjana Bhatia, Mentor, AIE, shared with the students and faculties, innovative ideas that could re-invent the process of teaching which included Creative teaching, Audio and Video tools, Brainstorming, Excursion classes, Story-telling method and Team work amongst others.
Sharing his vast experience, Mr. Adarsh Kumar, Executive Director, FDDI expressed that teachers are all pervasive, like gravity. He said that our tradition, from the very beginning, has always placed gurus at a very high pedestal, however in the recent days, we see that the relationship between the teachers and their students have also undergone a paradigm shift wherein their relationship seems nothing but a contract. He averred that, “The best minds in every society must be teachers”, however, unfortunately it is not so. Addressing the teachers, he concluded that “Students don’t care how much you know, unless they know that you care.”
There were two Technical Sessions. Technical Session-I was on “Emerging Avenues for professional development of educators.” Many paper presenters presented their paper on growth of professional teachers. The second technical session was on “Innovative paradigm shifts in teaching learning process.” Various presenters presented the papers on innovative teaching practices in teaching learning process.
Students and faculties of AIBAS were also present during the conference.
