Stakeholder's Workshop on "Policy Discussion on Construction and Demolition Waste Management in Noida and Greater Noida"
Amity School of Architecture and Planning supported by EU-REI, GIZ Germany and Development Alternatives conducted a Stakeholder's Workshop on "Policy Discussion on Construction and Demolition Waste Management in Noida and Greater Noida" at Amity University Noida Campus
The objective of the workshop was to disseminate highlights & learning from Training Manual on CDW Management and to identify Noida/Greater Noida-specific challenges pertaining to CDW Management.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rachna Arora, EU-REIExpert from GIZ, Germany apprised about “Best Practices in Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy”. She emphasized on approach of paradigm shift to look waste as a resource. She further briefed about the import dependency of India on resources heavy on economy, circular economy action plan 2015 and future prospective of buildings in wood in developing nations
Emphasizing on the “Importance of Urban Waste Streams Management for SDG11 and SDG12”, Dr. Abhijit Banerjee, Senior Advisor on Climate Change and Urbanization, UNsaid that there are various challenges in regard to dominance of informal sector and lack of proper land use planning. He shared that the need of the hour is to align SDG sub goals with the GoI policies and regulations with emphasis on the indicators to achieve the ambitious targets.
Mr. K.N.Dash, Scientist at Central Pollution Control Board, India outlined the gradual policy formulation on C&D waste in the country and latest adopted policy released in October, 2016. He pointed out the challenges faced at Central level due to lackadaisical attitude of state governments.
Dr. Reva Prakash, Technical Advisor at GIZ, Germany presented a talk on “Management of C&D waste: Interventions for better governance” Highlighting about the target set by GoI, that by 2019, she said that all Urban Local Bodies in the country need to outline an effective C&D waste management plan. She further elaborated on the strategies and step wise action plan that can be adopted to manage C&D waste.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vaibhav Rathi from Development Alternatives (DA) explainedabout the rationale of forecasting data and explained about the significantrelationship of CDW and Urban development. He apprised bout the success of CDWin Ahmedabad city from the initiation to the completion with a business casefor investment.
Dr. GaganNigam, IL&FS talked about “CDWrecycling from Industry Perspective”. IL&FS being the pioneer in CDWrecycling emphasized on “connecting the dots”, that everything that is requiredto manage CDW is available, and cycle need to complete to reap the benefits ofcircular economy. He mentioned about the quality standards of the products madefrom recycled CDW.
Theworkshop was attended by the officials from Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority,Practicing Architects and Industry leaders.
