20th Inter Institutions Sports Meet ‘Sangathan 2018’ commences at Amity University

Amity believes in providing holistic grooming to every student, wherein apart from academics, Sports is also given an equal weightage. Thus, to inculcate thev alues associated with sports such as team spirit, camaraderie, healthy competition, perseverance, hard work, dedication etc and also to commemorate the celebrations of Founder’s Day, 20th Inter Amity Institutions Sports Meet ‘Sangathan 2018’ - an annual Sports Event commenced today at University Campus, Sector 125 Noida.

During the annual event, over 10,000 students from all Amity Universities and campuses located in India & abroad would participate in over 40 Sports Events including Hockey, Cricket, Football, Tennis, Swimming, Squash amongst others in respective campuses. The faculty and staff members also participate in various sports events including shooting, archery, racing, chess etc. during Sangathan.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ‘Sangathan Mashaal’ by Dr. (Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Directors/HoDs and senior officials of Amity.

The Mashaal was carried to various campuses of Amity from Sector-125 to Sector-44 and Greater Noida by the students of various institutions.

Declaring “Sangathan 2018” open, Dr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh said that in these 20 years, Amity and Sangathan have grown manifold and from just few thousands of students to now having more than 1,50,000 students enrolled in Amity across the globe. He mentioned the Sangathan flame represents the growth and signifies that ‘sun will never set in Amity’. Dr Chauhan expressed his joy over such a huge participation of students and opined that participation in sports activities are very important since every competition teaches valuable lesson, furthermore, laying a foundation for being successful in future.

The sight of ceremonial release of pigeons and balloons by Dr. Atul Chauhan,Mrs. Pooja Chauhan- Vice Chairperson, Amity Humanity Foundation; Mr. Ajit Chauhan, Chairman, Amity Distance & Online Education; Mr. Abhay Chauhan;Mr. Anmol Chauhan; Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Vice Chancellor, Amity and Dr.(Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla - Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh was a treat to the eyes of everyone.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ajit Chauhan called upon the students to grab every opportunity that comes their way and advised them to make the most of this time by not only focusing on academic performance but also on extra curricular activities like sports. He averred that every participating student is an inspiration for others and expressed his hope that budding sports enthusiasts of Amity will represent the country at International arenas.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Kalpana Sharma, Chairperson Organising Committee– Sangathan 2018 said that every year Sangathan celebrates the vision of Founder President- Dr. Ashok K Chauhan and brings all Amitians together with an aim to develop a bond of unity by fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and other virtues associated with it. She further briefed about the genesis of Sanagthan and said that this year, more than 40 sports competitions will be organized for students, 07 for faculty members & staff, 05 for Amity Global Business School inter campuses and 03 for Inter Amity campuses.

During the ceremony Sports Captains and participants from various Institutions tookOath to participate in Sangathan with honesty, sportsmanship and team spirit.

The inauguration was followed by a friendly Football Match played between students of Amity School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences v/s Amity School of Engineering and Technology.
