“Capacity Building Workshop” organized at Amity University
“Morality amongst people isgoing down”, avers Shri Anil Kumar Singh,Chief Development Officer, Gautam Buddha Nagar, citing the recent cases of“fake” marriages during “Capacity Building Workshop” at Amity
Amity University Uttar Pradesh organized a “Capacity Building Workshop” for Gram Pradhans’ and other Members ofPanchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of Gautam Buddha Nagar under theaegis of Amity Institute of Social Sciences (AISS), Amity Institute of OrganicAgriculture (AIOA), Amity Institute of Public Health (AIPH)and Amity Centre forExtension Services (ACES) at University Campus, Noida.
The Workshop wasattended by over 80 Gram Pradhans, 20 Panchayat Secretaries and 25representatives of Open Defecation Team from 4 Towns and Nagar Panchayats of GautamBuddha Nagar District-Jewar, Dadri, Bisrakh and Dankaur.
The objective of the Capacity Building Workshop was toprovide a platform for discussion and exchange of innovative ideas; to createawareness and sensitization among the various stakeholders and to promote andsupport the flagship programs of rural development of Government of India. TheWorkshop will also facilitate interaction between participants and students ofAmity University who are involved in Extension activities and integrate them.
Addressing the gathering, Shri AnilKumar Singh, Chief Development Officer, Gautam Buddha Nagar and expressing grief and annoyance over the recent incidences of“re-marrying” in Government’s mass wedding event for the sake of a meagreamount of Rs. 20, 000 in Dankaur, he stressed that such shameful acts show howlevel of morality is going down in people, leading to lack of trust. Heremarked that it is not possible that not even one person was aware of theseshameful acts beforehand. He called upon the Gram Pradhans present during theoccasion to ensure that such acts are not repeated in future since they reflectthe entire system and even cautioned that stern action would be taken againstthose found guilty.
Sharing his concern over thelimited participation of women as “Gram Pradhans” in villages, relinquishingthe actual control in the hands of husbands/other men folk in the family, heremarked that women should come out and perform their responsibilities as “GramPradhans” which could bring about a real transformation in the villages.
Welcoming the distinguished guestsand sharing her views on the importance of the workshop, Dr. B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University stated that thestudents from various Institutions at Amity University, AUUP are involved inextension activities; they are encouraged to participate in Human Values &Community Outreach activities under the clusters of Women Empowerment, ChildIssues, Education, Health, Environment & Animal care, Social Issues, Carefor the Elderly, to help them imbibe the feeling of service towards thesociety. She remarked that Gram Pradhan Workshop, would provide an interactiveplatform for exchange of ideas amongst the various members of PRIs andFaculties, Students from various Institutions of Amity University.
Sharing his views, Shri Virender Kumar-District Panchayat Raj Officer applauded Amity forsuch a praiseworthy effort. He stressed that 60-70% of population of Indiastays in villages, which is the identity of India and the vision of smartvillages endowed with every facility is yet to be achieved in India. He calledupon the participants to participate with complete dedication and make the mostout of the discussions and deliberations of the Workshop, which will bring out the social problems at village level wherein the concernedInstitutions of Amity University, Uttar Pradesh could contribute in their ownspheres including raising the levels of basic standard of education in villages.
Also present during theevent were Dr. Helen Sekar, SeniorFellow, VVG National Labour Institute, GOI; Prof. (Dr.) Nirupama Prakash,Director, Amity Institute of Social Sciences, AUUP, Dr. N P Singh, Advisor,Amity Centre for Extension Services (ACES) and Mr Prashant Chauhan, AmityInstitute of Social Sciences.
The inauguration was followed byTechnical Sessions on “Education, Skilldevelopment and Employment for Rural Youth” by Prof. (Dr.) BalvinderShukla, Professor, Entrepreneurship & Leadership and Vice Chancellor, AUUP;“Prevention, Identification, Rescue& Rehabilitation of Child Labour-Role of Panchayats” by Dr. HelenSekar, Senior Fellow, VVG National Labour Institute, GOI; “Affordable Legal Aid to the Villagers ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ by Prof.Aditya Tomer, Addl.
