Amity Institute of Social Sciences (AISS) organized The National Political Science Conference -2017 on the theme “Rethinking Contemporary Indian Polity” in collaboration with Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Ministry of Human Resource, Government of India at Amity University Noida Campus on 14-15 September 2017.
The objective of the Conference was to brain storm on wide array of topics such as Indian presence in Foreign Politics to contemporary governance, economy and environment.
Numerous Academicians and Research Scholars attended the first day of the conference and Security and Environment theme was deliberated upon during the second day.
After the invocation Dr. Nirupama Prakash, Director AISS welcomed the dignitaries on the dais, delegates, participants, faculty and students. She gave an overview of the Institute and highlighted the relevance of the Conference in contemporary Indian political system.
Prof. S.R. Bhatt, Chairman of Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Ministry of Human Resource, Government of India gave an inspiring speech on Rethinking Democracy and a plea for Democracy.
Major General G.D. Bakshi (SM, VSM) delivered a very thought provoking speech on Nationalism and shared war time stories. The students were enamoured and were awestruck. After the inaugural session students interacted with Major General G.D. Bakshi very enthusiastically
Dr. Abha Singh, Dean, Humanities &Social Sciences, Amity University emphasized on the multi-disciplinary nature of Political Science and how Psychology and Political Science are interconnected subjects.
Dr Manan Dwivedi from IIPA gave an overview of Indian Foreign Politics.
Dr Shalini Saxena, Conference Convener extended the vote of thanks.
First Technical Session was chaired by Prof Swarn Singh, CIPOD,SIS, JNU, New Delhi and Dr Manan Dwivedi, Professor from IIPA, New Delhi and it covered the growing Indian presence in foreign politics in contemporary times.
During the session, India’s growing presence in the International arena was looked upon in comparison to its relations with the neighbouring countries namely China, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Research scholars and Professors of Political Science presented a plethora of papers on the topic. Comparisons were made and points were debated upon how India should work in order to maintain old and develop new relations with nations both near and far. And at the same time, delegates and other present personalities pondered and discussed upon on how India needs to maintain status quo in relation to China and Pakistan.
The second session was based on the sub theme Contemporary Governance, Economy and Environment as its focal point, which was chaired by Prof Satyajit Singh, Department of Political Science, University of Delhi. Many papers were presented during the session on topics that were very much relevant to the current Indian society.
During the second day of the National Political Science Conference, the third technical session of Contemporary Governance started with the address of Dr. C.R. AKHORI. She focused upon the issues of fundamental rights, right to privacy and empowerment of women.
Prof NISAR UL HAQ praised the theme -Rethinking contemporary Indian Polity. Fourth technical session India and security policies chaired by PROF. BADRUL ALAM focussed upon India’s national starategic policies specially external and energy securities.
During the valedictory, Dr Ashok Acharya ,Professor of Political Science, Delhi University was the chief guest of the valedictory session.
Dr Shalini Saxena, Conference Convenor presented the concluding report .
Delegates from all over the country participated in the National level Political Science conference . More than 42 research papers were presented during the sessions.
