“Death penalty should be put to death in legislation”, avers Sh. Salman Khurshid, Former External Affair Minister, Government of India during Youth Summit at Amity Law School, Delhi

Amity Law School, Delhi organized first edition of the YouthSummit at University Campus, Sector-125, Noida which witnessed simulation ofsix exhilarating committees and the finest quality of debate and diplomacy.

The event introduced students to some of the crucial issueshappening across the globe and  provided them a platform to exhibit theirunderstanding related to the agendas of the conference and then come up withthe solutions of the same. Apart from this, the deliberations in the summitwere directed towards grooming students for higher research and oratory skills.

The Summit was inaugurated by Former Union Minister Sh.Kapil Sibbal, who shared his views with the students regarding theeducation system in India and stressed that budding lawyers should havecourage, conviction and thorough knowledge of facts to avoid gettingmisled.   He inspired the students for seeking the righteous path ofcourage and truth through mastering in the knowledge of facts.

Sharing his views on “Stalling of Parliament”, heproposed that one day in the week should be reserved for the opposition partiesto deliberate upon the issues so that stalling of parliament can be avoided

Addressing the students, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- FounderPresident, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation and President, Amity Law School,Delhi stated that two day Youth Summit provided a good learningplatform for students wherein they not only acted as delegates but also triedto propose solutions to the problems faced by the world. Dr. Chauhan advisedstudents to take International experience as much as they can which would helpthem to become globally sought after professionals.

The Summit comprised of 6 Committees-3 International and 3National wherein students acting as delegates discussed various issues ofNational and International relevance such as “Deployment of lethal autonomousRobots in State Militaries” under General Assembly, “Legality of NATOintervention in Libya” under NATO, “Chronic Poverty Reduction in rural areas”under United Nations Development Program (UNDP), “Review of Capital Punishment”under Law Commission, “Formulating a Law to check stalling of Parliament” underLok Sabha and “Agricultural Reforms” under Citizens’ Reforms and also proposedsolutions to the same.

Sharing his views during the Valediction ceremony , Sh. SalmanKhurshid, Former External Affair Minister, Government of India commendedstudents for putting in tremendous efforts in discussing and debating thetopics under various Committees. He advised youth to be aspirational ratherthan being argumentative and bring glory to their University and motherland.Responding to a controversy surrounding the fee to be paid to noted lawyer RamJethmalani for defending Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal in a criminaldefamation case, Sh. Khurshid stated, “In everything you do, includingprevention of corruption, one must identify whether it is in personal capacityor official capacity- ie. Proprietorship of capacity. Competence has a greatdeal to do with values.”

While commenting on the need to do away with “Death Penalty”,Sh. Salman Khurshid said, “death penalty should be put to death in ourlegislation”.

In United Nations General Assembly, Ayaan MudraRaksaha from Khalsa College was declared Best Delegate and ShrishKohli from Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, Delhi’ was honoredwith “High Commendation Award”

InUnited Nations Development Programme, Soumya and Sanya Khurana fromVivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, Delhi were honored as “BestDelegates” and Vishvesh Seoran from Amity School of Engineering and Technologyreceived “High Commendation Award”

InLok Sabha Committee,Tushar Deswal from SGTB Khalsa received “Best Delegate Award” and AadarshPratap Singh from SGTB Khalsa received “High Commendation Award”.

InLaw Commission Committee, Rahul Sainifrom Campus Law Centre, DU was awarded “Best Delegate Award” and Chetan Pathakwas given “High Commendation Award”.

InCitizen’s Dialogue Committee, “BestDelegate Award” was lifted by Divyank Kumar from Amity Law School, Delhi andGagandeep Singh from SGTB Khalsa received “High Commendation Award”.

DrD K Bandhyopadhyay- Chairman, Amity Law Schools congratulatedthe participants of the Summit and called upon students to make maximum use ofsuch unique platforms where they can express freely and learn the practicalaspects of functioning of vital pillars of society, which are unavailable inbooks.

Hundreds of students from schools (Class IX onwards)including St. Mark’s Senior Secondary School- Delhi, Father Agnel School-Noida, Cambridge School- Indirapuram, DPS- Indirapuram, Bluebells KailashColony, DPS Indirapuram, Scholars’ Rosery, Delhi, Ryan International Delhi,Modern School, Delhi and Colleges such as DME- Delhi, Jindal University,Kurukshetra University, KIET Ghaziabad, Faculty of Law DU, MSIT Delhi, JaypeeInstitute of Technology, Madhusudan Law College Cuttak, Saveetha School of LawTamil Nadu, VIPS Delhi, Lady Sri Ram College-DU, SRM University- Chennai, IMS Dehradun and RMNLU Patiala participated inthe Summit.
