The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Industrial Engineering Club, ASET, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh organizes “Skill Development Training Program "
The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Industrial Engineering Club, ASET, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh organized “Skill Development Training Program (SDTP)” during 9-11 October 2017 in association with National Power Training Institute, Faridabad.
The Training Program was specially designed with utmost care and innovative approach to enable the Mechanical Engineering students to make them familiarize with the trends in the industry. The programme aimed at training the students for the specific tasks for the efficient functioning of the Power Sector Industry.
The key Speakers for the training programme were Ms. Bhawana Chaudhary,Assistant Director, Mr. R. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Director, Mr. Sanjit Kumar,Faculty Coordinator, GIS, Mr. Umashankar Akharia and Mr. Tarun Sharma, Founder,Nirwanna.
During the occasion, over 92 students registered to attend “Skill Development Training Program” and enhanced their skill sets to work in power industry. The training program included lectures,discussions, case studies and brainstorming sessions.
The Inaugural function was attended by Ms. Bhawana Chaudhary, Assistant Director, NPTI, Faridabad, Prof. (Dr.) M. KDutta Joint Head, A.S.E.T. and Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Nandan Mr. Uma Shankar, NPTI,Dr. Sumit Gupta, Coordinator, SDTP, Mr. Anoop Shukla Co-coordinator, SDTP, Dr. Pallav Gupta, Dr. Dilbagh Panchal, Mr. Anish Kumar and Faculty members.
Dr. Sumit Gupta, Coordinator, SDTP welcomed the eminent Speakers, faculty members and students and briefed them about Skill Development Training Program. He also introduced them to Industrial Engineering Club.
Pro. (Dr.) M. K. Datta talked about the importance of research and innovation for the Engineers. He inspired the students to explore the possibility of getting involved in various research and development activities. He expressed his hope that SDTP will open a new window for the students and participants to prepare themselves as per the industrial requirements
Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Nandan, discussed about the role of power sector for developing the nation as well as enhancing the economic growth. He shared that about 65% ofthe electricity consumed in India is generated by thermal power plants, 22% by hydroelectric power plants, 3% by nuclear power plants and rest by 10% from other alternate sources like solar, wind, biomass etc. He highlighted that 53.7%of India's commercial energy demand is met through the country's vast coal reserves.
Giving an introduction about NPTI, Ms. Bhawana Chaudary said that NPTI is the world’s leading integrated Power Training Institute and is the only Institute of its kind in the world with such a wide geographical spread and covering such vide gamut of academic and training programs in Power Sector. Mr. Uma Shankar also said that NPTI’s committed faculty is providing excellent training in the Power Sector, which is the most critical sector amongst all infrastructure sectors.

Ms. Bhawana Chaudhary took first session of SDTP on E-commerce and its applications and talked about the current scenario of E-commerce. In her talk, she said that E-commerce has allowed firms to establish a market presence, or to enhance an existing market position, by providing a cheaper and more efficient distribution chain for their products or services.
Mr. R Senthil Kumar, during the second session of the SDTP, delivered a wonderful talk on Indian Power Scenario and Power plant familiarization. He told that ever since,the electricity sector in India is growing leaps and bounds, exhibiting great dynamism and exponential growth. The utility electricity sector in India had an installed capacity of 271.722 GW as of end March 2015. Renewable Power plants constituted 28% of total installed capacity and Non-Renewable Power Plants constituted the remaining 72%.
During the second day of the SDTP, Mr. Sanjit Kumar shared his views on application of GIS for Engineers and Fundamental of GPS. During his talk, he discussed that GIS is widely used to optimize maintenance schedules and daily fleet movements and stressed that typical implementations can result in a savings of 10 to 30 percent in operational expenses through reduction in fuel use, improved customer service, and more efficient scheduling.
During the third day, Mr. Uma Shaker delivered a very interactive session on gearing up for the campus placements and he also discussed about life in corporates. He suggested tips and tricks for the placement interviews.
Mr. Tarun Sharma discussed about the corporate wellness and stressed that Corporate Wellness is among the most vital investments that a company can make. Corporate Wellness programs aren’t only investing in the physical wellness, safety, and mental health of their employees, but are also taking preventive measures by creating a healthier environment.
The valediction ceremony of Skill Development Training Program witnessed the presence of Head Mechanical Engineering Prof. (Dr.) Basant Singh Sikarwar, Mr. Uma Shankar, Mr. Tarun Sharma, Dr. Pallav Gupta, Mr. Anoop Kumar Shukla, Dr. Sumit Gupta and the senior faculty members from the Department including Prof. Achaiber Singh, Prof. G. K. Singh, Dr. R.K. Tyagi, Dr. Digbagh Panchaland Mr. Anish Kumar were present.
The Training Programme helped the student participants to understand the GIS/GPS, renewable energy, planning,implementation, as well as operation and maintenance including transmission and distribution of power. SDTP provided the knowledge of different inputs with case studies and brainstorming etc. After completion of training program, the students were offered Industrial Internship in NPTI, Faridabad.
