Amity Institute of English Studies & Research and Amity Institute of Corporate Communication organizes National Workshop on Contemporary Literary Theory

Amity Institute of English Studies & Research (AIESR) & Amity Institute of Corporate Communication (AICC), in collaboration with NOTIONS (An international Research Journal) organized a one-day National Workshop on July 17, 2012 at F2 Seminar Hall, Amity University, Noida.

The inaugural session started with the Lighting of Knowledge Lamp by distinguished dignitaries with Saraswati Vandana sung by AIESR Students.

Dr. Vineeta Prakash, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of English, Lucknow Christian Degree College, Lucknow, Dr. Mehr Fatima, Ex-faculty, Dept. of English, Jizan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Samir Ahmad, Dept. of English, Jizan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Vikas Sharma, Editor-in-chief, NOTIONS, Dr. Neer Kanwal Mani, Associate Professor, Govt. PG College, Faridabad, Dr. Malathi Subramanian, Director, Amity Academic Staff College, and H.A. Arfi, IAS (Retd.), Director & Head - Amity Institute of English Studies & Research & Amity Institute of Corporate Communication inaugurated the Seminar.

In his welcome address, H.A. Arfi, IAS (Retd.), Director & Head - Amity Institute of English Studies & Research & Amity Institute of Corporate Communication introduced the topic of the workshop. He discussed the importance of cultural theory and its application for the systematic study of literature.

Dr. Mehr Fatima, Ex-faculty, Dept. of English, Jizan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia traced the origin and development of literary theory & its impact and influences. She even tried to explore whether literary theory can be considered as a piece of art, philosophy or prophecy.

Dr. Vineeta Prakash, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of English, Lucknow Christian Degree College, Lucknow presented the complex literary juxtaposition of Postcolonial theory in the most simplified manner.

Neo-historicism was discussed by Dr. Neer Kanwal Mani, Associate Professor, Govt. PG College, Faridabad. She simplified the term Neo-Historicism and discussed its intricacies and resonances. She mentioned that Neo-historicism is a practice and not a doctrine.

Dr. Malati Subramanian, Director, Amity Academic Staff College highlighted the importance of having such workshops from time to time to improve the effectiveness and intellectual enrichment of faculty.

Dr. Walunir, Assistant Professor, AIESR talked about power, discourse and subjectivity in Postmodern Theory.

In the post-lunch sessions, different theories like Imperialism, Orient & Culture, Feminist Theory, Black Feminism in Afro-American Literature & Post-modern Historiography were discussed by Dr. Shuchi Agrawal, Assistant Professor, AIESR, Dr. Praggya M. Singh, Assistant Professor, AIESR, Ms. Sumitra Singh, Assistant Professor, AICC & Dr. Shweta Saxena, Assistant Professor, AIESR, respectively.

Major General J.P. Singh (SC), Director, Alumni & Specialized Trainings, Amity University was the chief guest of the valedictory function. Certificates of Participation were given to all the participating delegates.

Different aspects of contemporary literary theory were discussed in the national workshop to generate interest in deeper study about the literary theory and inculcate a contemporaneous spirit of research in the students and faculties alike.
