National Information Day in Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology” celebrated at Amity to promote scientific cooperation between India and European Countries

In order to promote scientific cooperation between India & European Countries (EU) under 7th Framework Programme (FP7), Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (AIMT) in association Jawaharlal Nehru University organized “National Information Day in Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology” at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.

Welcoming the august gathering, Dr. Ajit Varma, Vice Chairman, Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) highlighted the aim of 7th Framework Progamme (FP 7) which is to promote the scientific cooperation between India and EU countries in the areas of Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology. Dr. Varma further shared the research related activities carried under ASTIF and various fellowships offered by the Foundation to Ph.D students for their research work.

Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Co-ordinator, BIO CIRCLE-2, JNU expressed his gratitude to Amity for conducting the programme and apprised the gathering with ‘Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology (FAFB)’ in the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7). FAFB funds the research in the areas of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology in an endeavor to build a European Knowledge Based Bio- economy, where knowledge is the best way to increase productivity and protect the quality of life while protecting the environment.

Sharing his views on “EU-India Co-operation and Emerging Possibilities”, Dr. Phillipe de Taxis du Poët, Science and Technology Councilor, European Commission dwelt on the various areas where EU could collaborate with India with specific reference to Amity. He stressed that EU programme is not only for the benefit of EU or not just only to augment its research, but it is for the benefit of entire world. Scientists and researchers from all over the outside Europe are increasingly participating in Research programmes in the areas of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and Biotechnology (FAFB).

Also present during the occasion were Maj. Gen .K. Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Maj. Gen. R K Dhawan, Director, International Affairs Department. ,Dr. Supriya Chakraborty , JNU , Professor School of Life Sciences Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, Mr. Sanjay Kaul- Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) and others
