Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences and AIBHAS celebrates International Women’s Day at Amity University

AIPS and AIBHAS, Noida, AUUP celebrated 6th International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at C Block Auditorium, AUUP, Noida. The theme of this year is Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures. Dr. Manish Kumar Jha, Director, Ministry of Defence, India (Father of student of AIBHAS), Dr. Shobha Voleti, Pediatrician & Social Worker (Mother of a student of AIBHAS), Prof. Tanu Jindal, Director, Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology Safety & Management, AUUP were the invited guests for the day.

The programme started with welcome of the dignitaries and Lighting of lamp. The same was followed by the Saraswati Vandana sung by a student of AIBHAS.

An introduction to International Women’s Day 2012 was given by a student of AIPS followed by an inspiring Audio Video Presentation, Presentation of an inspiring and motivational self composed poem by Angad Singh, a student of BA (H) Applied Psychology of AIPS and a mono act on “Challenging your Challenges” by AIPS students. The act portrayed how by challenging our own difficulties an individual can come out victorious.

Dr. Balvindar Shukla, Pro VC (A) & DG ASET, AUUP also graced the occasion. She in her inspiring speech shared her own life experiences of being a woman. She stated that each and every day should be important for every individual. She insisted that through education change can be brought in an individual and further in the family and society at large.

Prof. (Dr.) Abha Singh, in her motivational thoughts and speech saluted the spirit of Womanhood. She said that it is only women who can “Humanize the Society”. She said that it is the maternal power that can nurture future. There needs to be equal treatment at home between both the genders, as both are required for the society to prosper. She stressed that at times it is just because of ‘ego’ that maternal power is not used to transform self and society. She speaking on the theme of IWD 2012 Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures, said that it is required to bring connection within ourselves to bring transformation in society. She citing that the rising crime against women these days said that ‘now is the time to bring about change in the women mindset. She motivated the audience to bring about positive change in the society. To sum it all, she quoted Swami Vivekananda, “There is no chance of the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on one wing.”

An apt dance performance on “Positivism in Women” by AIPS students followed the motivational thoughts by Prof (Dr) Abha Singh. The performance further paved way to a skit by AIBHAS students on ‘Touching Hearts, Opening Minds’. The skit portrayed the different aspects / issues faced by women. It highlighted the plight and further even gave a strong message that women have the power to overcome all the hurdles, and have to power to stimulate positive change.

The final event of the day was the Panel Discussion on ‘Happy Women-Happy Society’ in which parents of the students, as well as faculty members participated.
