Amity Centre for Science Olympiads organises “International Olympiad for Physics and Mathematics” and “Workshop for Mathematics Olympiad”

Amity Centre for Science Olympiads (ACSO) kick started with its “International Olympiad for Physics and Mathematics” and “Workshop for Mathematics Olympiad” for the National and International school students at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

“Amity International Olympiad for Physics and Mathematics” and “Workshop for Mathematics Olympiad” will be spread over entire week and culminate on May 26, 2012 during a Valediction Ceremony at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.

Welcoming the participants and all the distinguished guests, Ms Meenakshi Rawal- Director, Amity Institute of Competitive Examinations (AICE). She further shared various the details competitive examinations which are held under AICE every year to nurture the young talent across the country.

Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools emphasized how “Workshop for Mathematics” was conceptualized in confluence with SASTRA University, Tamil Nadu to inculcate new talent and infuse zest for science amongst the students. She further congratulated the participants and expressed her joy to be amidst so many young scholars from across the country and abroad. She motivated the participants to give their best during the week and try to learn the most out of their interaction with the experts which will immensely add on to their knowledge.

While sharing his views during the occasion, Dr. Srikanth .R- Associate Dean, SASTRA University expressed his gratitude to Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan for building up a model University to facilitate education at any level be it primary, secondary or tertiary. Dr. Srikanth stressed that it is very important to develop Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Industrial Mathematics. Knowledge and understanding of Basic Sciences needs to be promoted in order to keep pace with the rapid progress and giant strides various fields are taking. Such workshops which ACSO organizes every year help in fulfilling this need of the hour.

Also present during the occasion were resource persons and faculty members of the Workshop including Dr. Kannan- Dean, SASTRA University, Tamil Nadu, Mr. P M Pandey- Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT, Delhi, Prof. Hemant Kumar- University of Delhi and Directors and senior members from Amity University.

For the first time ACSO is organizing, Amity International Mathematics and Physics Olympiad wherein over 18 students from Kazakhstan, 8 students of Afghanistan and 4 students from Hong Kong will compete with their Indian counterparts during written and practical examination and depending upon how their performance, the Winners, First and Second Runners Up will be awarded during a Valediction Ceremony on May 26, 2012 at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.

The weeklong Workshop for Mathematics Olympiad will be a perfect blend of theory and hands- on practice. It will be conducted in two sessions, morning session and evening session. Doubt clearing classes will be held from 8-10 pm, wherein faculty members will be present to help out the students round the clock.

This time over 100 students of classes IX to XII from schools across Delhi / NCR including DPS, R K Puram, Bal Bharti School, Rohini, DPS- Saket, Army Public School, Noida, Step by Step, Noida and fraternity of Amity International Schools located in Noida, Mayur Vihar, Saket, Pushp Vihar, Vasundhara and Gurgaon will participate in the Workshop for Mathematics Olympiad.
