The 8th National Telecom Seminar ‘ Telefocus’ was inaugurated today by Chief Guest Mr. Akhil Gupta, Deputy CEO & MD, Bharti Enterprises, organized by the Amity Institute of Telecom Technology & Management (AITTM) at Amity University.

The conference focuses on the telecom industry, its progress, scope, achievements and its future. The telecom industry has changed the lifestyle of every Indian and its advancement is an achievement everyday. Corporate heads and dignitaries from the telecom sector shared their views and experience about how the progress will help in shaping the future of this industry as well as the society.

Mr. Akhil Gupta, Chief Guest expressed his delight on seeing how Amity Students contribute to the telecom industry. The telecom industry faces various problems, which are made by this industry itself as well as by the regulatory, government, court of justice etc which must be and can be avoided. Millions of dollars are spent every year on new technology, research and equipment with the only purpose of changing everything into data, which is the next generation technology. The print industry is said to be declining, and information is changing into data, to be exchanged through gadgets via various mediums. Before the end of the decade, 3G technology will replace everything, i.e. 2G technology will be sidelined. The use of optic fibers is yet to become common due to which the wireless form of data transmission is more successful in India. There are over a billion internet users in India, and efforts are being made to spread its usage in rural areas as well.

Several awards were also presented to corporate heads, such as Mr. Adrian Topp (Director Network, Colt India), Mr. Kwanbena Smith (Executive Chairman - ORUM Energy from Nigeria), Mr. Prem Behl (Founder-Exhibition India). The Top Telecom Service provider award was given to Bharti Airtel, Indus Towers and Viom Networks were awarded the Green Company of the year and Ericsson India Ltd was awarded as the Rop Broadband Infrastructure, among several awards.

The telecom industry is strong and resilient and will continue to grow stronger. The prospective workforce for this industry need to tap not only within the boundaries of our country but international networks as well, averred Mr. Gupta while addressing the students.

Mr. Fredrick Jejdling, MD, Ericsson India expressed his enthusiasm for the booming Telecom industry. Ericsson itself employs more than 10,000 employees. The company aims to have 50 billion connected devices by the end of this decade. The industry is very enthusiastic for the next generation to enter the industry and accelerate its growth and advancement.

Mr. Rajan S Mathews, Director General, Cellular Operators Association of India shared his views on the changing scenarios of the industry as well as the innovations in telecom. India is the second largest telecom provider in the world and is growing at a great speed. He stressed on avoiding problems rather than solving them. He encouraged the youth to take risks in order to innovate and achieve new possibilities.

Mr. Sanjoy Sarma, VP & CTO Alcatel-Lucent shared his expertise on 3G Technology, its roll out and challenges. 3G refers to the third generation of mobile telephony technology and delivers packet- switched data with better spectral efficiency, at far greater speeds. Poor broadband penetration, a large untapped rural market and the challenge of providing high bandwidth in rural areas are all factors favoring a 3G rollout.

The conference was attended by several academicians, technocrats, Industry heads of the telecom sector and hundreds of students. During the conference students were given an assurance to look forward to a bright future in the telecom industry and not to get disheartened with the recent turmoil in the industry.
