Corporate Delegates from Mauritius visit Amity University

A high powered delegation comprising of 14 members from Mauritius visited Amity University to mull over the potential areas of collaboration. The delegation is part of the Mauritius Prime Minister H.E. Navinchandra Ramgoolam visit to India to explore various business and academic opportunities. The delegation to Amity was led by Mr. Maurice Lam, Chairman, Board of Investment, Mauritius.

Welcoming the delegates, Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University, Rajasthan and Additional President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation said that Mauritius is a nation of multi culture and diversity. Mauritius can become a gateway for India to African continent. We are working closely with Government of Mauritius and Board of Investment. Amity has recently established Amity Campus in Mauritius. Mr. Chauhan informed the august gathering that Amity University is the first Private University in Mauritius to be given approval to confer the authority to give degrees. Students from Mauritius and other African countries like Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania are enrolling in Amity Campus Mauritius. Mr. Chauhan said that it’s a proud moment for Amity to host a galaxy of entrepreneurs from Mauritius and this visit will renew our commitment to give global and quality education blended with tradition. Mr. Chauhan said that Amity should become a global network institution for all nations and educational institutions should think beyond education and have a vision to support underprivileged and help community development.

Sharing his views, Mr. Maurice Lam, Chairman, Board of Investment, Mauritius said that in education, any body and every body can teach mathematics, English or science but how many teach human values and cultural values. Education institute should be such who can teach their students to value their country, culture, pursue the dreams and make the world a better place to live. Mr. Lam said that Amity is going to make difference not only in Mauritius but in Africa. Mr. Lam invited students to study in Mauritius campus. Mauritius is a different country but similar to India as you may find may persons from Indian origin. Mr. Lam said that faculty can see how can new field may be developed in Mauritius. One can set up courses related to Marine Studies, Oceanography, environmental science, climate etc. He further called upon students and investors to help develop new sectors of Mauritius economy and population.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group lauded the efforts of Board of Investment in helping Amity to establish Amity Campus at Mauritius. Dr. Chauhan said that Mauritius and India has similar culture, roots and history and Amity has a dream of becoming largest University of Mauritius and have more students in Amity Mauritius than any other campus in Mauritius.

Mr. Raj Makoond, Director – Joint Economic Council, Mauritius said that there is a third super cycle going on in the economic development which is ruled by Asia, Africa and Brazil. The first cycle focused on steam related industries, second cycle focused on technology oriented industries and now third cycle is focusing on knowledge based industries. Mr. Makoond said that Africa is a continent of potential and acknowledging this aspect, we have made changes in policies to allow private sector to invest in education. Around 80% of GDP of Mauritius is from private sector and around 75% investment is done by private sector. Mr. Makoond said that there is lot of opportunities in Mauritius and we would like to invite partners like Amity to invest in Mauritius.

The eminent members that formed part of the delegation included Ms. Siew Meng Tan– CEO, Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd, Mr. Shyam Surat – CEO, SKC Surat & Company Ltd, Mrs. Adeela Rawat - Director, Seaton Investment Ltd., Mr. Ken Poonoosamy – Managing Director, Board of Investment, Mr. Raj Makoond – Director, Joint Economic Council, Mr. Louis Rivalland- President, Joint Economic Council, Mr. Cedric Doger de Speville – President, Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Claudio Feistritzer – Vice Chairman, BRAMCOM Holding.

Maj. Gen K.J. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Dr. Gurinder Singh, Pro VC (I), Amity University, Dr. Balwinder Shukla, Pro VC (A), Amity University, Prof. S.S Agrawal, Director General – Academic, Innovation & Research Coordination were also present during the occasion.
