Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences celebrates Human Value Quarter 2012

Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences, Noida celebrated Human Value Quarter 2012 on 21st March at C block Auditorium as a part of the University Celebrations of Human Value Quarter 2012. The theme of the celebration at AIPS was “Human Values lead to Oneness”. The events signified that Universal values such as peace, compassion, love, joy, and deep respect for the inter-connected aspect of life are fundamental ideas that inspire us to move further into the unifying consciousness of all humans. And in order to retain our diversity, yet still be a living expression of Oneness, we need a shared commitment to practicing values that respond to our individuality yet make sense for collective humanity.

The programme started with Saraswati Vandana along with a meditational prayer sung by students of AIPS. Next, Being in sync with the theme of Human Values the students expressed their understanding of human values like passion, altruism, pragmatism and harmony through the beauty of words in a Poetry Competition: Tapestry of Values. Students from AIPS, ASET and ASE participated in the Competition. A Documentary Competition: Three pillars of Life-truth, peace and love followed the Poetry Competition. Students from AIPS, AIBHAS, ASEI and AISST participated in the Competition. The students embarked on a self-explorational journey that helped them to get in sync with the three pillars of life-truth, peace and love. The documentaries displayed the interplay of truth, love & peace, futher even displaying the works and teachings of great thinkers such Mother Teresa, Mahatama Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda.

Prof. (Dr.) Abha Singh, Director, AIPS and Acting Head, AIBHAS enlightened the audience with her “Inspirational Insight to Human Values”. She said that Human Values lead to Oneness and eventually equality. The intent of the inspirational talk was that the Values should not just be preached but rather they are to be practiced by individuals. She conveyed that it is just practice of values that can generate a difference in an individual’s personality and can further work for the betterment of the society. She further spoke about the value of inclusiveness and how that can lead to a positive self and society.

After the enlightening talk by Director, AIPS, students of MA in Applied Psychology from AIPS presented survey report on “Survey on Impact of Cultural Values on Self and Society”. The students conducted an indepth survey on the same to understand the interplay between Cultural Values and Self & Social Enhancement. They presented a compilation of the interviews of students and faculty members conducted at AUUP, Noida. They concluded by saying that every culture is unique but there are certain values such as empathy, truth, humility, trust, love, peace, commitment are common irrespective of Human boundaries.

The last event of the day was a play depicting faith/religious values as a positive reinforcer to deal with stresses of daily life presented by AIPS students.

The program concluded with Prize distribution Ceremony. Angad Singh of BA (H) Applied Psychology from AIPS, Noida won the first prize in Poetry Competition while Sneha Chatterjje from ASE and Tapabrata Mukhopadhyay from ASET won the second and third prize respectively. Kumari Ranjana & Mohammad Zeeshan Ali from ASEI won the first prize in Documentary Competition. While Akorshi from AIBHAS and Sampann from AIPS won the second and third prize respectively. The students were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation along with a Prize.
