Amity University organized its 7th Convocation, spread over three days ie. December 14-16, 2011 at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

During the final day of the Convocation, Mr. Rajeev Shukla, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs was awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy (D. Phil.) Honoris Causa for his continuous exemplary efforts in nation building through his visionary approach to planning and implementation at the national level.

Accepting the honor bestowed with most humility and dwelling on the Indian education environment, Mr. Rajeev Shukla said, “The pivotal area for the growth of the country is education. Education is the core for the growth and development of the country. With such a huge population of 1.2 billion people, the only way to take the nation to the heights is by educating the youth of the country. India has over 60 crores of youth and no other country in the world has such large young population. Our task is to educate most of them so that they can become an asset of the nation. Even underprivileged children need to be given education which can catapult their lives, they can achieve anything in their career provided they are given education. When I talk about education, it means quality education. There are so many institutions mushrooming in India even in Noida but the quality of education imparted by them is important. The need of the hour is to provide quality education to the youth so that they can have a different kind of environment, different kind of career and different kind of talent. I thank the management of Amity for providing quality education to the youth of the country and at the same time,I request the management to start some quality institutions in rural areas, where the students are completely deprived of education and in particular, the girls of rural areas If you educate one woman of a village, nobody in that village can exploit her. Educated women are far more competitive than the educated men.”
