In her mesmerizing lecture, Dr. Shashi Prabha Kumar said that as per vedic views there are two parameters of education - Teacher and pupil. Pupil or student has to be a seeker with quest for knowledge and teacher should be competent enough to teach his student. In vedic times Professor was called as Acharya. Dr. Kumar said that Acharya is one who teaches more from his conduct rather than by his words. He sharpens the intellect of his students. Dr. Kumar elaborated on the method of teaching in vedic education system, she said that one method was of question and dialogue. Second method was of self study followed by lecture in class. Third system of teaching was method of naration and story telling. In vedic education system there was collaboration between education and nature and because of this reason all the gurukuls were in forest.
Dr. Shashi Prabha Kumar said that in vedic education system there were three types of relatioship between student and teacher and this should apply in present time also. First relationship is like Mother and Child - Love your student as mother loves his child. Second relationship is like of father and child - Discipline your student with love as father does. Third relation is of treating your student as your friend.
