Hon’ble Mr. Salman Khurshid- Union Minister for Law and Justice announces GLC, Mumbai as winners of the 11th Amity National Moot Court Competition
Amity Law School, Delhi organized 11th Amity National Moot Court Competition from March 2- 4, 2012 at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida to familiarize budding lawyers with the actual court proceedings thereby honing their skils of formulating and presenting legal arguments before a panel of judges.
The valediction of 11th Amity National Moot Court Competition was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Salman Khurshid- Union Minister for Law and Justice who lauding the efforts of Amity called Dr. Ashok K Chauhan the “Powerplant“ of Noida. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the caliber and quality of legal education in the country and advised students to excel in court craft and master the technique of “Right Instinctive Decision. He called upon the budding lawyers to hone and chisel their instincts in order to make a great lawyer and not to restrict themselves to Corporate Boardrooms but come to the Bar and then to the Bench and contribute to the system.
Addressing the young budding lawyers and congratulating them for participating in the Amity National Moot Court Competition, Mr. A.S. Chandhiok- Additional Solicitor General of India said that every competition is useful and each experience adds to the caliber of the students. He remarked that it’s a difficult time as far as law fraternity is concerned since there is an intrusion by people who are not in the mainstream of the profession and advised students to self introspect before joining this profession. Sharing his experiences, he advised students to be determined and always think that opponent is better than them but at the same time, should think that they know the best. Commenting on the rising standards of the Indian law education, Dr. Chandiok said that today even American courts cite many Indian judgments while delivering justice.
Presenting the Winners Trophy to Government Law College , Mumbai ,Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Universe averred that Indian brains are the best and there is no comparison of Indian lawyers worldwide. He stressed that to be a good lawyer one needs to be intuitive, instinctive, creative and flexible in one’s approach. Law students can learn a lot from Moot Court Competitions which provide them an opportunity to interact with eminent law fraternity and this learning they imbibe from such competitions is unparallel.
Welcoming the august gathering, Prof. M. K. Balachandran- Director, Amity Law School, New Delhi shared the proud achievements of the students of Amity Law School.
Other eminent guests present during the valediction included Mr. Harin P. Raval, Addl. Solicitor General of India.
The semi-finals of the Moot Court were contested between four teams Government Law College, Mumbai, Rajeev Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, National Law University, Jodhpur out of which Government Law College, Mumbai and National Law University, Jodhpur emerged as finalists.
Winning Team from Government Law College, Mumbai was given a Rolling Trophy along with the Cash Prize of Rs. 7, 500, and Runner-Up team from National Law University, Jodhpur along with the Cash Prize of Rs. 6, 000 was felicitated with a Trophy.
Shikhar Saha from NLU, Jodhpur was adjudged as the Best Speaker with Ayushi Anandpara from GLC, Mumbai backing the Runners’ up Position. The Best Memorial Trophy went to the team from RGNUL, Patiala and NLU, Jodhpur was announced as the Best Memorial Runners Up. Best Researcher Award was lifted by Suman Meena from NLU, Jodhpur.
Over 14 law colleges and institutes across India participated in the competition including Government Law College, Mumbai, NLIU, Bhopal, Symbiosis Law College, Pune, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab and School of Excellence in Law, Chennai. Each team comprised of three students -Two speakers and One researcher, enrolled in fulltime Undergraduate LL.B. programme.
