Amity Institute of Food Technology celebrates ‘World Food Day’ on the theme “Food Prices – from Crisis to Stability”

The ‘World Food Day’ is celebrated globally every year on 16th October, the foundation day of Food and Agriculture Organization, the internationally recognised body in this field. The FAO gives a particular theme every year for celebrating this day, depending upon the scenario in the food and agriculture world. “Food Prices- From Crisis To Stability” is the theme for Year 2011.

The Amity Institute of Food Technology celebrated ‘World Food Day’ on 18th October, 2011. In pre-lunch session, two competitions were organized- Quiz Competition and Poster Competition. The theme for Quiz Competition was ‘FOOD’ and the students were asked questions based on the nutritional, microbiological, phsico-chemical, packaging and regulatory aspects of food. Out of the 6 teams of 5 member each, the winner and runner-ups were announced after the quiz was over.

For ‘Poster Competition’, the topics given were:
1. Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods
2. Food Safety and Security
3. Food Water Management

In total, 9 enteries were received from the stundents. The results were announced after the jury members- Dr. Naaleni Ramawat, Acting Head, AIOA, Dr. S.C. Jain, Director, AIFT and Dr. Karuna Singh, Lecturer, AIFT selected the best two posters.

In the post- lunch session, Dr. Sunil Saran shared his views in brief on “ Food Prices- From Crisis To Stability”.

Dr. S. C. Jain gave an introductory lecture on ‘World Food Scenario’. He threw light on the global status of India in terms of Food Production and Food Processing. His lecture gave information about the strengths and weaknesses of India in food sector. The distinguished guests from industry and academia spoke on the following topics:
1. Dr. J. P. Dongare, Deputy Director, FSSAI- ‘ Food Safety and Regulations’.
2. Mr. A. Subramani, DGM(Quality Assurance), Mother Dairy- ‘Food Safety Journey in Developed Countries’
3. Dr. Eram Rao, Associate Professor, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences- Food Prices- From Crisis To Stability.

The event was also blessed by the gracious presence of our Hon’ble Founder President, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan. He shared his views on the prospects and unexploited opportunities in the food industry. He interacted with the students present in audience and encouraged them with his auspicious words.

The Hon’ble Founder President was accompanied by a distinguished guest, Mr. Abhishek Mishra, Professor, IIM (A). Mr. Abhishek, briefly discussed about the role of Strategic Planning in handling food crisis as well as food prices.
