Panel Discussion on "Cyber4All - Digital Locker, Digital Payments and Cyber Security" organised at Amity

As a run-up to upcoming Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS)2017- an initiative by the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology,Amity University Digital India Club organized a Panel Discussion on"Cyber 4 All - Digital Locker, Digital Payments and Cyber Security" today at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

Amity University has partnered with NeGD, Ministry of Electronics and IT , Govt. of India, as major Academic Partner for Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS) 2017

Mr. Ranvir Singh, Managing Director, Digitary India;Mr. Atul Gupta, Partner at KPMG, Cyber Security Leader, Mr. Aditya Kapoor, GM,Paytm, Col. Pankaj Verma, Cyber Security Expert, TCG Digital, Mr. Himanshu Nautiyal, Senior Managing Consultant, IBM and Ms. Tulika Pandey- Additional Director, Government of India, Ministry of Communications & Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India participated in the Panel Discussion.

Welcoming the distinguished panellists, Dr. B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University stated that Cyber space and Digitization is making life easy as well as difficult for the users; to some it has provided opportunities for misuse. She shared that Amity students have been taking “Workshops” on sensitization of masses in the area of “Digitization” in rural areas, making people aware of digital modes of payments and ways to use them safely. She suggested that Government, Industry and Academic Institutions- all need to work together to spread awareness about cyber threats at every level.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Atul Gupta stated that today’s generation is blessed since they are aware of Cyber Security, therefore, they should contribute in making world a safer place to live for everyone. He stressed that with the influx of digital technologies, digital payment channels, Cyber Security has become important and shared that in 2017, Cyber Security has been the most widely searched topic on Google. He averred Cyber Security is here and it will continue to stay in future. Referring to a research, he stated that 88% of the people interviewed, expressed their desire to use digital payment modes but at the same time, shared the scepticism in sharing the same due to safety concerns. Over the past few years, although the digital payments have gone up but not the value of digital payments which re-enforces the safety related concerns of the users. He stressed that the need of the hour is to increase awareness about Cyber Security and “Cyber Security Policy” needs to be implemented at country level.

Sharing his thoughts and quoting Global Digital Snapshot 2017, Col. Pankaj Verma,Cyber Security Expert, TCG Digital shared that there are over 3.77 billion Internet users in the country, 2.78 billion active Social Media users and 2.54 billion active mobile social users. 50% of the web traffic generated is through mobiles followed by laptops and desktops at 45%. He stressed that a large number of population is on Internet which makes India prone to Cyber threat and warfare. The social, political and financial impacts of Cyber war are too high and the cost of Cyber warfare is peanuts as compared to physical wars at geographical boundaries of the country. Cyber warfare, he remarked,poses a great threat to the critical infrastructure of the country including Banking and Finance, Government operations, Transportation etc. He called upon the gathering to be careful while leaving digital footprints on web, since they can be abused easily.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Himanshu Nautiyal, Senior Managing Consultant, IBM stated that IT has transcended traditional boundaries and very soon, traditional business models will collapse, merging IT with every kind of Business. He stressed that it’s a misconception that bad guys in Cyber space are ahead of good guys; over 99% of Cyber crimes are taking place with conventional methods. He suggested that Security needs to be embedded as a core of system and not as add ons.

Dr. J S Sodhi- Vice President & CIO-Amity Education Group and Executive Director-Cyborg Cyber Forensics & Information Security Pvt Ltd moderated the discussion.
