“Amity Institute of Homeopathy Research” launched at Amity University

To conduct more research and studies in Homeopathy and work towards advancement in Homeopathy, “Amity Institute of Homeopathy Research” was launched today by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President Amity Group in the presence of Dr. R.K. Manchanda, Director General, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy; Mr.Peter Braun, Head, Homoeopathic Business Schwabe Group, Germany; Mr. Ashish Kumar , Managing Director, Dr Willmar Schwabe, Noida; Ms. Julia Peterle , Area Manager - Affiliated Companies Worldwide, DHU Homoeopathic Business Unit of Schwabe Group, Germany; Dr. Naval Kumar Verma , Lotus Holistic Health Centre and Institute, Khalifa City A, Abu Dhabi, UAE; Dr. Rajeev Kr. Sharma, Director,Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy, Ministry of AYUSH; Dr. SPS Bakshi, Chairman cum Managing Director of Bakson Drugs &Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. and Dr. Alok Kumar, Sr Consultant, Safdarjung Hospital.

During this event, a Panel Discussion on “Recent Advances and Emerging Trends in Homeopathy” was organized by Amity Directorate of Science & Innovation and Amity Directorate of Health and Allied Sciences at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Sector 125 Noida.

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan said that Homeopathy has been an underexplored and under-utilized system of medicine which is now undergoing a phase of transformation globally. He stressed that there is a need for enhance scientific approach and research in the field so that the real potential of homeopathy is brought to its use for better healthcare.  

Addressing the gathering, Dr. R.K. Manchanda, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy said that homeopathy is practiced in 18 countries and has been used as medical treatment for various health issues. However, right from the inception, homeopathy has faced strong opposition from the conventional medical community and has not received its due recognition. Dr. Manchanda apprised that with growth of bio medical system, homeopathy is facing different kinds of challenges like how to improve the clinical practice of average homeopathic doctor even though research in homeopathy is using all modern parameters in both clinical and fundamental research to develop tools and processes to document clinical experiences. He highlighted that today, homeopathy has advanced to a stage where it has treated patients of chikungunya and finding cure for malaria.

Briefing about evolution in homeopathic education, Dr. S P S Bakshi, Bakson Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd said “in year 1991, there were 78 homeopathic colleges while now there are 205 homeopathic medical colleges with 149 undergraduate colleges.” He pointed out that homeopathy is the fastest growing medical science in the world with 25-30 percent annual growth rate.  He laid stress upon how homeopathy is known for successfully treating severe chronic diseases and genetic disorders such as allergies,respiratory problems, stomach disorders, arthritis, mental disorders etc. Dr Bakshi opined that simple tendency to catch cough or cold, if not treated properly may get converted into serious chronic disease; herein homeopathy plays an important role not only in curing the disease but preventing from being a grave ailment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ashish Kumar, Dr Willmar Schwabe, Noida said that over two decades, Homeopathic industry has witnessed an evolution in terms of growth but there has been an increase in problems as well. He apprised that there have been many negative theories and movements against homeopathy and its practitioners are also being challenged over the treatment. Mr. Ashish averred that the solution to most of the challenges lies in research which is minimal for homeopathy in comparison to allopathic.  He called upon the industry leaders to invest in research at homeopathy field for an improved scientific structure that will help in the development of healthcare industry as whole.

Mr. Peter Braun, Schwabe Group, Germany lauded the innovative projects of Amity’s scientists in concern to the problems of India and world,at large. He mentioned that apart of Europe, India and Indian Sub Continents isan important base for Homeopathy. Mr. Braun assured the success of Homeopathy in healthcare with the combination of knowledgeable doctors and improved quality of Homeopathy medicines. 

Mr. Rajeev Kr Sharma, Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy, Ministry of AYUSH urged for quality improvement of drugs and said that even if a patient consults best of doctors,no treatment will work if drugs standard is not good.

To explore potential areas of collaboration in the field of Homeopathy, Amity University signed a MoU with Dr Willmar Schwabe India Pvt Ltd.
