Amity Law School- Centre II, Amity University, Noida started 1st Amity National Hindi Moot Court Competition -2016 on ‘Criminal Law’

To emphasize the importance of Hindi language in Legal Profession, Amity Law School- Centre II, Amity University, Noida started 1st Amity National Hindi Moot Court Competition -2016 on ‘Criminal Law’ at University Campus, Sector 125 Noida.

The objective of the competition is to promote and pioneer the Hindi language which aims to envisage and hold the traditions and philosophy of law through basic grass root level in a practical manner.

The two day moot court competition was inaugurated by Shri Madan Chauhan,Minister of State (Independent In-charge) for Entertainment Tax, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh and Shri Giriraj Singh, Minister of State in MSME Ministry (Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises).

Lauding the efforts of Amity, Shri Madan Chauhan Ji said that the initiative to organize 1st Hindi Moot Court is the need of the hour.He mentioned that for many countries, promotion of national language is of utmost importance on national and International platforms. He pointed that there are various words and sentences in one’s local language which cannot be described in any other language. Mr. Chauhan stressed that the Britishers have left a deep impact of their culture and language on Indian Society and it is very unfortunate that our nation became fixated with English language and our very own national language Hindi took a backseat. He apprised that the development of a country depends upon the growth of its inhabitants who can progress better with progression of local language.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Giriraj Singh said that English language has dominance over the country and India is the only major country whose elite speaks a language that is not their own. He stressed that it is important for people to realize that language is not a barrier for development and knowledge. Many countries like China, Korea, Japan, Germany value their language and have progressed by giving due importance to their local language.Mr. Singh highlighted that there has been a language barrier in many cases as sometimes the person involved in the case doesn’t understand the English language. The lawyers must realize that carrying the legal proceedings in local language will help in better response from the litigants who will understand the court proceedings better in their locallanguage.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) D.K. Bandyopadhyay, Chief Advisor, Founder President’s Office and Acting Chairman Law Schools said that Hindi is credited to be the carrier of Indian thought and culture. The language is also a link between our traditional knowledge, ancient civilization and modern progress but over the years, it has been neglected in the wake of rapid development. He mentioned that lakhs of cases are pending in courts due to language obstruction. Dr. Bandopadhyay opined that it is the need of the hour to nurture budding legal professions in Hindi language for improved and fast progress of legal proceedings.

During the ceremony, a book was released by the dignitaries.

More than 30 teams across India including National Law University, Orissa; Lucknow University; KIIt Bhubaneshwar; Kurukshetra University; Delhi University and National law University, Jodhpur amongst others have participated in the competition.

The competition rounds will be held over a period of two days. In the preliminary rounds, each team shall argue for both the sides in two separate rounds.Memorial scores will be added to the team’s oral scores in the preliminary rounds for declaring the winner of each round. The Quarter Finals,Semi Finals and Finals shall be knockout Rounds. The winner of these rounds will be decided solely on the basis of their oral scores in the respective rounds.

The valedictory ceremony of the competition will held on October 6, 2016 wherein Hon'ble Mr. Justice V. Gopal Gowda, Judge Supreme Court of India; Mr. Salman Khurshid, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court & Former Cabinet Minister of Lawand Justice; Mr. Shamsheer Tahir Khan, Executive Editor AAJ TAK, Mr. AmanRajput, Deputy Director, Ministry of Defence and Mr. K.C Tyagi, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) will grace the occasion
