A day Conference on “Significance of Legal Awareness for Teachers” at Amity University
To abreast the budding teachers with legal education, Amity Institute of Education (AIE), New Delhi and Amity Institute of Education, AUUP in collaboration with Amity Law School, Delhi organized a day Conference on“Significance of Legal Awareness for Teachers” at University campus, Sector 125, Noida.
Theconference was inaugurated by Dr.Ranjana Bhatia, Principal and Director, AIE, New Delhi and Prof. (Dr.) D.K.Bandyopadhyay, Chairman, Amity Law Schools
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) D.K.Bandyopadhyay said that education is all pervasive and a holistic education integrates three important factors in an individual - skill, knowledge and confidence. He emphasized that education empowers a person with his rights,thereby leads to the process of transformation in every individual his rights.He stressed that it is important for teachers to learn about important laws and rights so that they can further teach about them to the students right from primary level itself.
Sharing her views, Prof. Ranjana Bhatia said that it is important for a teacher to be aware about legal procedures. The teachers are the knowledge bearers who can inculcate the importance of knowing one’s right from school level itself.
During the conference, various technical sessions were conducted on “Domestic Violence” by Mr. Shaharyar Khan, Assistant Professor, Amity Law School, Delhi; “Menace of Dowry” by Ms. Richa Gupta, Assistant Professor, Amity Law School, Delhi; “Women’s property rights” by Ms. Ankana Bal, Assistant Professors, Amity Law School, Delhi;Sexual Harassment by Ms. Venu Parnami, Assistant Professor, Amity Law School,Delhi and “The procedure for filing an FIR” by Ms. Nimisha Jha, Assistant Professor, Amity Law School, Delhi.
Apprising the audience with Domestic Violence, Mr. Shaharyar Khan, Assistant Professor, Amity Law School said that few women are still not treated with due respect in society and they suffer not only physical violence but mental, economical and sexual violence as well. He mentioned that rape is a crime in India but marital rape is a societal problem which still needs awareness. He stressed that it is high time to address such major issues as today’s talk is tomorrow’s law. Mr. Khan averred that in certain situation, individuality of women is violated like designing parameters for jobs to be done by them. He stressed that knowing a law is necessary, but it is more important to act upon it. He advised the budding teachers to teach the students about their rights, raising their voice against wrong doings,informing them about procedures like taking help from NGO or Police or directly going to Magistrate with complaint. He further briefed them about the Domestic Violence Act 2005.
The conference was attended by more than 300 students from students of various colleges including Army Institution of Education, Greater Noida; Kalka Institute of Research, Delhi; Sapphire International; Amity Institute ofEducation (AIE), New Delhi and Amity Institute of Education, AUUP amongst others
