Over 240 school students across India participate in “18th Amity National Mathematics Workshop”
Over 240 school students from classes VI to XII across India participated in “18th Amity National Mathematics Workshop” jointly organized by Amity Institute of Competitive Examination(AICE) and Amity Centre for Science Olympiads (ACSO) from May 21-28, 2016 at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.
The students from Lotus Valley School (Noida), DPS (Noida Expressway), Manav Sthali(Rajinder Nagar), Step By Step (Noida) and Global Indian International (Noida),Amity International Schools located in (Noida, Vasundhara & Pushp Vihar, Gurgaon) and other schools participated in the NationalMathematics Workshop.
Amity National Mathematics Workshop, the first of its kind and very innovative concept, aims to groom Indian students to shine in National and International Mathematics Olympiads by exposing them to a perfect blend of theory and hands- on practice by subject experts in a very congenial environment.
Dr. M Mohapatra- Additional Director General, Weather Forecasting Services, India Meteorological Department, (IMD), Dr. Geetha Venkataraman- Professor of Mathematics, School of Liberal Studies, Ambedkar University, Delhi , Dr. Amber Habib- Director, Institute for Innovations and Inventions with Mathematics and IT (IIIMIT) and Dr. Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools graced the Valedictionceremony.
Welcoming the august gathering, Ms. Meenakshi Rawal-Director, Amity Institute ofCompetitive Examination (AICE) and Amity Centre for Science Olympiad presented a brief summary of the week long Workshop, various achievements and competitive examinations organized by AICE for young students in Science and Mathematics.She shared that the participation of students in Mathematics Workshop has been increasing every year and the day is not far when India will have numerous Noble Laureates to shine in the global arena.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools thanked all the parents for making a discreet choice of sending their children for the Workshop. She appreciated all the resources persons and t eachers who mentored the students and shared that Amity initiates and conducts numerous events in the area of Science and Mathematics because every discipline derives from either Science or Mathematics; therefore it is imperative to kindle the curiosity and interest in the youth to pursue Science and Mathematics.
Sharing her views with the students, Dr. Geetha Venkataraman- Professor of Mathematics,School of Liberal Studies, Ambedkar University, Delhi said that the sheer fun of solving tricky and brainy problems of Mathematics surpasses everything.She encouraged students to feel free to ask as many questions as they want since every question that comes to their mind is important. Talking about Mathematics as a “all pervasive” subject, Dr. Geetha stressed that Mathematics and its applications are used everywhere and Mathematics gives a new way of thinking to the user, who always has a clear road map in front of him. She motivated students to keep their love for Mathematics alive, no matter whateverthey decide to pursue in future.
Dr. M Mohapatra- Additional Director General, Weather Forecasting Services, India Meteorological Department, (IMD) congratulated Amity for organizing such a mega event, which has a successful history of 17 years. Motivating the students, he stressed that the commitment, involvement that they have demonstrated during the Workshop will help them in scaling greater heights in future. Talking about the importance of Mathematics, he remarked that Mathematics is at the top of all other subjects and it is a way of life, a method to understand and solve the problems of life. He stressed that the application of Mathematics in socio economic well being of the society is very crucial. He urged the students to think anew and take keen interest in Mathematics,which will nurture in them a unique creativity to solve problems of the society.
Sharing her views, mother of Khushi Saraf- a student of Vanasthali School thanked Amity for conceptualizing such a different kind of an event which really helped in boosting the morale of her daughter with remarkable level of learning. She shared her joy in making a right choice for sending her daughter to the Workshop and expressed her affirmation that her daughter will participate every year in the Workshop.
Pratham Goel-a participant from Class IX , Modern Delhi School, Faridabad expressed his joy and elation in attending the Workshop which helped him learn Mathematics and its applications in a fun way, befriend students from other schools and understand the tricky concepts taught in senior classes with ease and simplicity in a congenial environment
During the ceremony, the winners of GLOBAL TALENT SEARCH EXAMINATION 2015,conducted by Amity Institute for Competitive Examinations, were felicitated with Cash Prizes, Certificates and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
Global Talent Search Examination was conceptualized in 2006 to kindle scientific temperament in students from Class I- XII across India who shall represent the country eventually in National and International competitions.
